2 mic fuel filter rust
not sayin a fleetgaurd did not rust on the inside but man i would have to see it to believe it maybe if it was setting for acouple years and they removed the factory filter/water seperator and got lots of bad diesel and it was very humid and it was only ran for very short periods of time and see where iam coming from to many filters used by to many top end user to have an issuse like that and in cat advertisement they say nothing about eliminating possible rust issue from other brands of filters that use steel
but who knows
but who knows
I never got a drop of water out of the stock canister nor ever had the water in fuel light illuminate. That is why I am confused why this happened.
Yep WOW lots of moisture. You may never get the WIF to illuminate as it seems none do.Diesel fuel has moisture in it.I don't care if I ever see a drop of water in my truck I drain my fuel filter cannister some on ever fill up if possable.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who is bothered by this. I guess it's obsessive compulsive disorder but whenever the little gear pattern disk in the middle of the 6spd shifter starts to turn I can't help but stare at it. And I can't stop until it's fixed.

WOW Thats a nasty filter! I wonder just how effective the water separator is in these trucks. I've actually thought of adding one of Glaciers filter heads and the Fleetguard fuel water separator just after my pump and run it along with the stock canister. Would the Walbro pump be effective running through the aftermarket F/W separator then through the stock filter and F/W separator then through the 2u filter?
How exactly does a water separator work anyway? Does it just provide a pool for the water to settle into or is there some other magic going on that I'm missing??
About the leg, it wasn't exactly the nicest thing in the world but it was far from the most painful thing I had happen from all this. While I was trapped in my S-10 looking at my leg with its new joint about 4 inches up from my knee, I was joking around with the rescue folks trying to take it easy.
I went to high school with 6 of the EMT's/police that showed up (one EMT was an ex-girlfriend, I introduced her to my current girlfriend, another EMT was a cousin, one cop was another cousins brother in law) and knew about 5 or 6 more of the older EMT's/police that were there too. I figured they didn't need to hear me hollering or anything. Of course shock helps in this situation too. But for the first 30 minutes or so I didn't feel much. The next 30 minutes of my entrapment was getting progressively worse, I was losing blood internally in my leg. This was the point where the History Channel saved my life. I started feeling pretty faint when I remembered all the dogfighting stories where the pilot would grunt and compress their upper body to keep from passing out. Worked for me. I would feel faint and grunt a bit, then Id make it back for a while!
The "high" point of the day was the flight nurse that gave me mucho morphine. She told me she was going to put a little in and wait, a little more in and wait and that she would keep doing this till I couldn't feel anything. Then she gave me a good shot more. After I was totally numb they yanked me out and I apologized for being a hefty feller. It was very impressive that the flight nurse did all this without charts and stuff. After that I seriously could not feel a thing for a very good while, I was very very looped up. I love to fly and I was depressed afterward that I didn't remember much of the helicopter flight.
Anyway the leg pain was nothing at all to the pain I had from the partially collapsed lung. It was bruised and damaged from the seat belt. I did holler and yell for this one!
Heres a couple pics when I visited my S-10 at the junk yard. The pictures dont do it justice at all.

Sorry for the thread hijack. Please continue with filtration discussion!

You are lucky to be alive... stay away from those psuedo pickup trucks...
And back to the filter/pump thing.. . My Walbro pumps fine thru 4 filters, 2 of which are 2micron or better. Not a problem at all....

Dave B...
Did you use a rubber o-ring or gasket on the center post with the CAT filter. I'm not talking about the large one towards the outside of the filter diameter. I think my small rubber gasket came off with the old filter and I never put it back when I installed the new one. I have no leaks and didnt notice until I was looking at the picture of my filter.

I was also concerned about the stock filters ability to seperate the water so
when I installed the Glacier pump and 2 micron setup I also added a
Fleetgard FS 1000 water seperator in the bypass line returning back to
the tank so the entire tank is filtered several times per hour. Now I have
some water every time it's drained weekly.

Here it is. He used an o ring at about 2 minutes in. I think I read a post somewhere else to use the o ring.

No telling how much damage I may have done to the engine!
