I found this on a MITUSA thread. Looks like I need the 0750. Should I keep that O ring thats on the filter head from Glacier? I would think I should but I'm not sure. If it doesn't seat up I guess I'll find out when I fire up!

Heres the info from the thread, this came from member OPIE, who got it from another site:

I dont understand what is funny about that.
I think you are getting awfully excited about some rust. I have seen some very nasty stuff in filters in class 8 trucks and they run a lot higher fuel pressures with unitized injectors. Unless you cut the filter apart and it was on the post filter media side I wouldnt get worried. The filter did its job, it stopped the bad stuff from going through.

I use the CAT 750 filter on my truck. I have 749's around but they are too long. CAT makes a hoss filter and they are known for their extremely strict quality control.

I've found an online source for the 0750 filters. If anybody knows of another please post.

These are from Lubrication Specialist LLC.

They're used in Lubrication Specialists LLC's VW TDI and Jeep CRD kits.

I couldn't read the name on the link above and had to verify it with the install instructions for the kit.

I've got to go out tomorrow and there is a Truckpro nearby I'm going to try them, then to the CAT dealer up the road a bit. If that doesnt work I'm going to order one from the link above unless someone has a link that beats that price.

DaveB. I would try the CAT shop. I think at our shop we sell them in the 14-15 dollar range. I know I pay a little under 9 at my employee discount. You wont have shipping etc. to deal with if you go local. Dont let them tell you they have an "equivalent" filter, trust only CAT. If you have room for the 749, shoot me a pm.

Just a thought did the rust deposits fall into the centre when you undid the filter before you get to worried cut the filter open and carefully unwrap the paper & look to see if anything has got through just to put your mind at rest

Possible but it seemed like the bottom of the filter had some rust on it. Hopefully it was well attached. I will be taking this new filter off in 5k miles and then I will use only Cats. Hopefully no harm has been done. What is the sign of a problem with the injectors. The truck is running fine.

I run 2 - 0749's which are the tall boys.... So far no injector problems whatsoever. They are big so they're installed in my toolbox. Used the permacool heads. I think I paid $20 per filter at an International dealer.

After seeing this thread and the rust on my Fleetguard 2 micron filter I decided to stop by the CAT dealer before I went to therapy yesterday.

Here is a shot of the Fleetguard filter mounted on the truck.

Heres the Fleetguard 2 micron filter up close with the rust. I didn't notice any rust on the inside, but there was a spot of some sort on the bottom. I couldn't tell what it was.

The CAT filters are very nice. Here is a picture of the big aluminum head. The tube and canister in the middle are a very hard plastic. The quality is great. I read up on these and the Fleetguard had a 92% efficiency whereas the CAT 2 micron has 98% efficiency.

Finally here is the CAT filter mounted.

I finally got to drive my truck today for the first time since the wreck in October that broke my femur and kneecap. I had ran the truck and held it at 1500 rpm before to warm it, but nothing is like a good drive. After I got it warmed up I gave it a few good bursts to try to blow the soot out and it worked. The idle quality was certainly better after running it and getting it up to temp. The clutch was a bit rough on my leg though. It wasn't bad for just driving around since I didnt have to shift at all while on the road. In stop and go driving it would be different. That would wear me out at the point I am now. So I'll be driving an automatic for a while till my leg gets stronger.

the fleetgaurd was fine the rust you were looking at was outside the gasket and not even in the filter housing so you were worried about nothing Now the cat is a good filter also but seriously the fleetgaurd was fine

I agree 100%

I'm partial to the CAT filters also.

What Motrapper said. All the rust is outside of the fuel flow.

I understand that the rust was on the outside and away from the fuel flow, I mentioned that in the caption above the fleetguard filter.

But after the experience of the previous poster who DID have rust on the inside I figured I would change. I never thought that I would have rust on the inside, especially with the low mileage on mine.

not sayin a fleetgaurd did not rust on the inside but man i would have to see it to believe it maybe if it was setting for acouple years and they removed the factory filter/water seperator and got lots of bad diesel and it was very humid and it was only ran for very short periods of time and see where iam coming from to many filters used by to many top end user to have an issuse like that and in cat advertisement they say nothing about eliminating possible rust issue from other brands of filters that use steel
but who knows

Actually CAT does mention possible metal contamination problems in their ads. They don't come right out and say rust but word it as metal contamination.

Check out page 2 of this ad. http://ohe.cat.com/cda/files/309297/7/pehp9522_01.pdf

These are very good filters. I too think its a long shot for rust to form inside the Fleetguard design but as long as the stamped steel is present it is a possibility. With the CAT its impossible. Plus the price I got on the CAT filter was close to $4 cheaper than the Fleetguard. When the guy gave me the price I went ahead and got 2.
