Installed the MITUSA (fuel pump)

Hello
Over the weekend my son and I installed the MITUSA a belt driven gear fuel pump on my wifes truck.
I have not seen many posts on this so bear with me and I will tell you what I have seen with it so far.

It came to me as a complete kit. What I like about it is you use both fuel pumps until the MITUSA kicks in and then a preasure swith turns off the lift pump on the fuel filter.

This is what I see when starting the truck. As soon as I start to crank the engine over the lift pump reads 7 psi then as soon as the engine starts the fuel preassure quickly goes to 17 psi. I have not driven the truck hard yet due to me thinking that everything needs some time to wear in. I did hook the 5er up to the truck and pulled it to a dumping station to drain. It did seem to pull stronger but that is a seat of the pants thing. I will take her truck to work in the morning and I may get a chance to see if I can pull down the fuel preasure. I have about 75 miles on the truck since the install and some idle time thrown in there as well.

Just thought I would let folks know about something I think is well worth the price.

See Ya
Chris
Course now I need to redyno the truck and see what she has now, maybe down in Commerce Georgia the 8/9 of Sept. David is it to early to sign up?

Chris, where did you get it from. PM me if you want. I'd like to get one sometime, was hoping to get it this summer, but had to go back to school for summer school at ECU, so I havent had the chance to save up the money.

Hello again
Yes that is where I bought it from TimVa.

I cranked up the TST up to 6/4 for the drive home tonight. I got on her pretty hard when the light turned green (no brake torqueing) and the rear end started spinning let up and got on it again and only seen the fuel psi drop to 15 psi, that was with the go pedal on the floor until it got up to 70 mph or so.

There is a fella at work that has a Ford lighting that he thinks is fast (he ran a couple of 14.5s), we may go to the track on the 27th. It has been raining here so much we may not be able to. I need to call a couple of friends and see if they want to go out.

I will be putting some miles on it before I drive it up to the Schield Event the end of next month. So Far everything looks great.

See Ya
Chris

I have been running one since the end of December. It has worked flawlessly! The designer and manufacture of this system (Opie) is an perfectionist! Everything fits perfect. Opie know what he is doing and I highly recommend this system!

Chris:

Thanks for the report buddy!

I agree with "Big Bob" that OPIE definitely knows how to build great, dependable parts and accessories for our Dodge CTD's! No doubt about that!

Hopefully all is going well and it was worth the wait.

PapaSmurf, If you don't want to see the drop to 15 psi they now make a draw straw that will cure that or TIMINVA has pickup tubes that are used in the 05 and newer trucks.

Hello

I pulled the 5er down to Commerce Ga, the TST was on 2/4. I kept a close eye on the fuel pressure gage and it barely would move pulling the hills in S C and Ga on I 85, I 20 and I 26.

I am pretty sure I am about done with upgrades to the trucks, both of them are 400 or better in HP and that is plenty for what we do with them. I may be adding a water injection kit to the 3500 just to keep the EGT down/extra hp. Not real sure right now depends on if I find a good deal on one.

I think there are a bunch of us diesel heads going to the local race track this Saturday. I will see if I can pull the fuel pressure down running down the track.

Thanks for the update. Great fuel system I tell other 3rd gen owners about it. I will be adding a 2 micron fuel filter to the system in the near future.

See Ya
Chris

The question is.... is this on par price-wise with the electric pumps like the FASS and GDP kits? I'd be interested to see, even though I just installed a GDP 392 Comp kit.

Hey Opie,

Everything went well on the pump install... thanks for putting together such a great product. I was only able to make a short test run, though. My sepentine belt tensioner decided it had enough enough fun.... again. Luckily I was near my house and not in the middle of nowhere. I won't make the mistake of not having a spare belt and tensioner again. In the short drive the pump worked great. 30psi pressure at idle, and much more than that at WOT. I need to bleed my FP gauge on the isolater side because it stopped raising at 55 psi . I should have the truck back going by the end of the week, and I get to the track as soon as I can. Thanks again!

John

Honestly 4X4not, I hope your system is everything you want it to be.
I refrain from discussing such things here as it may end up being removed. I am not about making the cheapest set up, rather longevity and performance. On the common rail truthfully no other system right now is capable of making the lift pump pressures a few of the Mitusa trucks are testing with.

Bio diesel and veggie oil systems are the main focus of the pumps right now and things are going well.

Chris, A 2 micron filter is a very good idea for the injectors used in a common rail. And if you go with a 1-14 thread filter there are several filters to choose from I cut/copied these from another site...

Caterpillar Secondary Filter 1R-0749 (2 Microns) (threads 1-14 UNS-2B )
Fleetguard FF5319
Donaldson P551311
Baldwin BF7587 (BF614, Standard Version, BF7633, Short Version)
Wix 33674
Luber-Finer LFF2749 (High efficiency version of LFF5823B)
ACDelco TP1322
Fram P8335
Purolator F75185
Hastings FF1056 (FF1007, Standard Version FF1079, Short Version))

Caterpillar Filter 1R-0750 (2 micron) (threads 1-14 UNS-2B )
Fleetguard FF5320
Donaldson P551313
Baldwin BF7633 (BF7587, Long Version)
Wix 33528
Luber-Finer LFF3347
ACDelco TP1326
Fram P8334
Purolator F65213
Hastings FF1079 (FF1056, Long Version)

Filter heads for ref...

Filter Heads (1-14" Thread)
Perma-Cool 88864 High Flow Filter Head (1/2 NPT Inlet / Outlet)
Perma-Cool 81074 Fuel Filter/Water Separator Kit (1/2 NPT Inlet / Outlet)
Perma-Cool 81794 High Performance Filter Head (3/4" NPT Inlet / Outlet)
Fleetgaurd 142784S (1/2 NPT Inlet / Outlet)

John, 30 at idle. I had a feeling you would be going there. Thanks again for being patient, lots of new ideas being machined these days...

Hello
Thanks OPIE for all the part numbers. I think this is the way to go for a fuel pump for trucks that are needing or wanting a reliable fuel pump.
this system bring more piece of mind than the FASS I installed on my 2001. It is very hard to beat the dependability of a gear pump.

EDited out a not very nice reply by PapaSmurf.

I strongly recommend this system to anyone looking to upgrade the fuel system on a 3rd gen truck.
See Ya
Chris
