1st oil sample John Deere 15/40 CI4+
1st oil sample John Deere 15/40 CI4+
I just got my results back from my first run of John Deere 15/40 CI4+ oil. I went 5,000 miles on the oil just like all of my other runs on the Premium blue CJ formulation.
Observations:
Iron levels dropped from an average of 17 down to 9.
Moly went from an average of 35 UP to 82
Boron went from an average of 25 UP to 105.
Silicone went from 7ppm to 8 ppm. I switched out my AMSOIL Nano to a
regular mopar filter. Looks like the mopar is doing just as good?
Viscosity went from ave of 72 up to 77.1
insoluables went from ave of .3 down to .2
I think I like the results and they are going to continue to make CI4+ for years to come!

Roperteacher.....can't tell from your sig if you're 5.9L or 6.7L ?
I, too, just switched over to the same oil......a friend of mine by the name of Ken turns wrenches at a John Deere dealership in Richmond, KY and he indicated to me that the 15W40 and 0W40 will both be around for a while.
The first few oil changes I ran Rotella-T 15W40 CJ4+ (triple protection for the dpf equipped trucks). After Ken educated me on the lackluster performance of the CJ4+ oils, I switched to the JD oil at 21.6k miles. I plan on sending a sample to Blackstone again to compare results with a previous sample of the CJ4+ Rotella.

Im prob going to switch to JD oil myself...........when my current stock of CI-4+ Rotella Syn 5w40 runs out. I have enough stashed away for about 4 more oil changes......or 20K miles.
No CJ for me.

I've got a few questions about this as well.
- You ran LSD w/ CI4+ and have oil analysis reports?
- You ran ULSD w/ CJ4 and have oil analysis reports?
I'd be interested in seeing the test results of the ULSD w/ CJ4 compared to the ULSD w/ CI4+ (as long as both are ran with the same type and manufacturer of filter).
I'd also like to see all of the results if you can post them.

Sorry it took so long to get back on here, I have run NOTHING but ULSD fuel. Thats all I can get out here. Up until this oil run I used the Premium Blue CJ oil with GREAT results! Exact same intervals (5,000) and EXACT same oil filter ( Fleetguard Stratopore). All of my results are directly comparable. I will post all of them if I can when I get home from work this evening...
I Paid $14 a gallon for the oil and got it from my Local JD tractor dealer. So it is a little more than my PB costs.
I actually needed to change it and I had not got my sample back so I put PB CJ back in it but will change it again here in another 1,000 or so and stick with the JD from here on out..
On the JD website they said they will continue to make CI4+ forever. I did not send in a virgin samople..

OK, The first column will be my AVERAGE from all previous samples before the John Deere. I have 43000 on the truck so you can do the math, 0ver 8 previous samples. Identical conditions, driving, and filters. The SECOND line will be the Sample From John Deere sample

I know of several Farmers in my area who stopped using Rotella oil last year (they are now using JD oil in all farm equipment) they said the new formula does not hold up as well as the old CI-4+ standard. One farmer said the new oil only last half as long as the old stuff thus making JD oil even better then the cheaper priced Rotella.
