1.5 years worth of true mpg

I've got an app on my phone that keeps my vehicle info. For the last 1.5 years I've been the only one to fill my truck up. I took the time to fill it up to the top every time. It takes about 15 minutes to fill the truck up, those last 4 gallons or so go real slow. Anyway, I've got 37 fill ups logged.

14.4 mpg average, lowest 11.2 mpg, highest 18.6.

I would estimate this is 70% city / 30% highway. Maybe 5% of that time was pulling a 7000 lb travel trailer.

I baby this thing too because I'm cheap and don't like to buy fuel. This truck is bone stock, no programmer, no mods, stock tires and wheels. 4x4 2500 quad cab used for recreation mostly. I haul my dirt bikes and lawn equipment in the back occasionally, and trips to Home Depot. Just turned over 60,000 and it's a 2006 I've had since new.

I wish there was a programmer that would de-tune, give me first gen type power with first gen type mileage. I don't need the 325/610 except when I pull, and even then, my Grandfather's first gen Cummins did fine with a 36 foot fifth wheel in 1990.

Also, I run 90% in Tow/Haul mode. I can't stand the mushy shift feeling around town in regular mode.

I see lots of claims of mileage on here. Wanted to give a true reading, filled to the neck every time average.

This is great!
What app do you use? I should go through my receipts and do a similar thing over 3 years, but that would take forever. I am also the only one that fills up, and the last 3-4 are a slow process to me as well as I fill to the brim.
The odometer says I typically get between 500 and 550 miles per fill up, and I usually put in between 35 and 37 gallons. I've hit 39 gallons twice.
BUT I also have 315's on the truck, and the computer has not been reprogramed to the new size.

Thanks for the insight! This will prove valuable to some.

Since I bought my truck, I write down the mileage and how many gallons I put in at ever fill up. So far my best has been a hair over 17. The half gallon or so difference between fill ups doesn't make that big of a difference and as I keep filling up, my overall average gets more accurate, because there is no disputing how much fuel I've put in for the distance I've driven.

It's called Gas Cubby on my iPhone. I think it was $3 or something, but worth it. I have all my cars in it. It keeps track of fuel and service. I set it up for the different service intervals for my cars, it pops up and tells me I need to change the oil, rotate tires, wax, lube, etc. I find it handy because I used to keep this in a log book and didn't always have it with me when I filled up.

I kept receipts the first few years but never got around to adding them up. The other interesting thing is it keeps a total of your fuel costs, plus it allows you to enter costs for service and keeps the totals of those per vehicle. My fuel costs, and I live in California, are $3,826.19 over the past 1.5 years. Ouch. Service costs are $1950.83 which includes tires last year and registration, which again in California is $400 per year.

That's pretty lousy.

I get 24-26mpg commuting.

Just wanted to be the over the top ridiculous outlier who believes his lie-o-meter.

P.S. Sounds about right, 15-17 for me with the occasional 18-19 and a very rare (like twice in 70k+ miles before lift) 20mpg.

I am using Acar app (upgraded to Pro for a minimal voluntary amount of $5) for Android and with 4.5years of info:

Avg mpg: 16.419
Min mpg: 12.205
Max mpg: 20.707
Last mpg: 16.127

$/mi: 0.20
$/day: 3.82
$/fillup: 82.35
Mi/$: 5.00

Anyway, just a handful of stats I have with this app I like it. I try to download every year or two just to save space on my phone. I am pulling city/metro duty. No real highway or open road for cruise control, just freeway in DFW land. The truck does better on the open road, but for city life, I'm fine with it for the capability.

This truck still gets better on average than my best ever on my last truck. I have more power, more truck, more engine, more capacity, more tank - overall better truck. I'm happily upgraded for a long time

Great info. I have 3 years of fillups in Excel but then slowly kept forgetting to keep it updated and then stopped. The app would be much better for me!

As for filling up you can speed up that process buy doing the tank vent mod. I did this several years ago and love it. I can have fuel in the neck within about a minute of the first click off.

I check mine every tank. The lie-o-meter stays at 19.5 all the time.

With small amounts of town and lots of road travel I see 16.5-19.5. Depending on amounts of hills and wind.

Towing my heavy horse trailer fully loaded I see 12.5-14. No less or more.

All based on hand calc.

My average for the last 7 years is 18.62 mpg (hand calculated). Would have gone back earlier but lost the data.
