Yeah, mine comes on when it's below 45 usually. Of course mine sometimes comes on when it's 80+ and stays on even when it's over 90F. It's been to the dealer multiple times. Of course they can't find anything wrong...uh huh. Check engine light does the same thing...nope, no codes. Just a quirk.

What I hate the most about the whole system is the dang draw down of power. I live very rural and it's DARK here. Half the time I'm driving in the near dim light because the grid has pulled the lights down low. Doesn't last long at any one time but it's frustrating as all heck to have it do it continually for miles!!

(bige- I bought mine used from a dealer as well and have an 07 manual cuz they couldn't find the 06. Did you know that the 06 owners manual is available online? I have it saved to my computer so I can double check things with the 07 one in the truck - just in case....)

Grid heater works by intake air temperature. I think it's 50°. Not ambient. That's why sometimes if the ambient is right around there, the grid heater won't come on until you start the engine, then the air flow will drop the temp that extra degree or two and it'll come on then.

IIRC the owners manual states the grid heater does not come on unless the intake temp ( not outside air temp) is below 66 degrees. IIRC mine will not come on until the outside temps drops to around 62 degrees on my overhead temp read out.

yeah..that's right. 65-66......sounds more like it. I know mine will still come on on summer mornings, but by afternoon it won't.

The draw on power is the reason for TWO battery's.When they had only one (1989/1993) battery life was short but it was hard to find 1200 cca batterys. If it were glo plugs its the same deal.
