06 radiator drain valve leaks
06 radiator drain valve leaks
So I flushed the coolant, and now the drain valve drips. It was stiff, but seems to be in the fully closed position. I don't want to reef on it and break
something. This is the 2nd coolant change and it sealed fine the first time.
I saw a few past threads but nothing described how to remove or replace the valve. It seems to hit a stop when you open it, and I'm hesitant to try to force it past that or try to yank it out.
Any tips on how to fix this?

Dealer sells replacement drain valve, usually the o-ring splits. Remove by turning counter clockwise and pulling at same time. Put a little silicone paste on new drain valve when installing.
Thanks. I pulled on it a bit and it didn't want to move. I figured I just needed to wiggle it and be a bit more aggressive as it felt gritty when it turned, but I wanted to make sure before I break something and have to replace the radiator.
Doesn't seem to be too sturdy or well designed.

Thanks for the replies. I got a replacement at my favorite independent parts store, and actually got it in without taking too much of a bath. Lubed it with dielectric grease (figured it doesn't attack rubber or plastic) and it seems to be sealed.
Had to pry a bit to get the old one to come out, but found it to be in good shape with a bad O ring. Next time I get parts I'll get a new O ring so I'll have a spare.
With new coolant, both axles, brake fluid flush, transmission and transfer case done, ye olde truck should be good for a while.

The problem most people have is not knowing it only turns 1/2 turn and then pull out, most people think it unscrews so they get on it with pliers, I was one of them until I read the instructions, by accident as my neighbor was flushing his sons, and couldn't get it out, that is when I read the instructions, so 1/2 turn and pull.''
Yeah I could see that happening. Mine was pretty stuck and gritty when I got it to turn, but you could still feel a distinct mechanical stop at 1/2 turn.
Overall, though, to me it seems like a pretty flimsy design.
