06 Blowby

Hi,

Our 2006 had a bad vibration at idle last year and some blowby. No time to work on it so took it to a shop. They said at least one bad injector but should replace all of them so we did. Recently noticed that it had a real bad raw fuel smell from exhaust and same bad vibration. I pulled the head and shot a few pics, hoping someone could help with a diagnosis. BTW when i pulled the oil fill cap the blowby was pretty bad and kind of like a steam engine pumping, not steady. Thanks for the help. Oh, 180k on the motor.

First pic is #5 second is #1 third is #5 valves and fourth is #2 valves. #5 is the one that looks like it was hot to me. Injector, or burnt valve?

Probably has a broken ring on one of the pistons. That's where I would look for a blow by issue.

Thanks spooler. I was really hoping to hear valves but i know better than that. It pretty much has a dead miss. Probably go ahead and pull it and see what i find.

Upon further investigation, cylinder #5 is scored. You can see it in the pic.

Yeap, that is the one with a cracked ring. Just redo them all and be done with it.

Think I can get by honing it and ringing it. Its a fleet truck, so if I can get it going easy, great. If not oh well. You can feel the ridge in it.

Thanks,

Cole

You can try it depending on how bad that ridge is. That's what folks on here have done before.
