04.5 to 06 harness
04.5 to 06 harness
Hey all. Thanks in advance for any help!
I recently totaled my 04.5 5.9 Cummins 2500 4-door short bed (great story for another time!). I am in the process of putting the engine and 6 speed into a roller I had sitting at my shop. The roller is an 06 mega cab. I have all of the components from the 04.5 to integrate into the mega cab. My question is regarding the harness connector on the driver side frame rail behind the front tire and the splash guard. The 04.5 has 2 smaller connectors and the 06 has one large connector. I'm assuming these connections run to the lift pump, tail lights, etc. I'm obviously going to need to lengthen all the wiring if I use the frame harness from the 04.5. I'm pretty sure no one makes an adapter, but I'm mechanically inclined and willing to put in the work. I just would like some advice on whether to take the harness off my 04.5 and extend it, wire by wire or re-pin wires into the 06 connector, or if there is a way I haven't thought of? Again thank you for any information and/or help.

The 2004.5-05 Dodge Cummins trucks are wired completely differently than the 2006-07 Dodge Cummins trucks.
I don't suppose that the wiring harness, ECM, TIPM, dash, etc are any good in the 2006 truck? If yes, drop in the 2004.5 engine and done.
Then your 2006 truck is all 2006 and not a mismatched truck.
Going by your post, that is likely not the case though.
Converting your 2006 truck to a 2004.5 truck is likely possible but will be work. Swapping the entire harness, ECM, Pwr mgmnt module, dash, etc, etc.
The 2006 trucks have the same taillights as the 2004.5 trucks. Unlike the 2007 trucks.
It likely is possible to keep the rear wiring harness from the 2006 truck and integrate it into the 2004.5 harness but I wouldn't. I would swap the entire 2004.5 harness into the 2006 truck.
Keeping it as stock and original as possible. Wiring colors, connections, etc. This will make it easier with any future wiring issues as you will be able to simply refer to a 2004.5 wiring diagram.
Just my thoughts, good luck with the swap!
