04 2500 rear axle seems to be sticking?

Have an 04 2500 with what appears to be posi trac or some kind of lockinf rear diff. This truck is 2x2. When I put vehicle in reverse and turn the steering wheel ever so slight, I feel a vibration on inside of truck? Son can hear it too but can hear nothing on the outside of vehicle. It feels like a 4x4 set on "auto" and as if it is trying to get traction. Not saying this is what is going on, just what it feels like. anyone with similar issues? The vehicle is automatic on NOT 4x4. Thanks, Louis

I'd look at the PS pump first... My wife has an 08 2500 that has issues like this, I think it is line pressure or something. We replaced the pump under warranty, it was good for a few months, now it's back to the way it was.

Feels like a shudder at a low speed turn, like pulling out of a parking spot or drive way?

Yes, kinda feels like that or like the rear tires are both turning and trying to get traction. Hard to pin point where or what is happening?

I have been told not to worry about it but now that I know it is there I can not help but think about it, OCD!

1) Check the hub bearings on front and rear.
2) If it has a clutch type limited slip and no LS additive it will cause that.
3) Mud tires? I know its two wheel drive but I have seen it. Mine make all kinds of vibrations coming down to a stop and in a sharp slow turn
4) Diff problems, pull the fill plug on the diff see if you see any metal in the fluid or on the plug.

rear diff bind

does it have the problem cold or hot.take vin of truck or just go to dealer to get proper additive.if it is a rearend issue don't be surprised if you have to drive a tank of fuel with proper lube before the problem goes away.had this with with my 2500 diesel after getting serviced at a local garage.

my 05, 2 wheel drive has a bump sometimes when i start off in the drive way.

have heard it maybe 3 times, in a year and half, always wondered what it might be.

i had mine serviced at dodge dealership, trans, differential, they said all was good.

it has never been a problem,

I am fishing here:could be after a rain maybe the rear brakes pads stick, then when you start off they have to break loose.

do not know, but its never been a problem, great old truck, pulls whatever and gets great mpg.

rear diff

i will find out what was used for oil in my 03 but it was so bad that after a 50 mile drive on a warm day the truck would chirp the rear wheels in a short turn. changing the rear grease fixed the problem.

Ok guys, thanks for the responses. Someone said that 03 and 04 dont use additive, they are correct. Confirmed that truck does have posi trac and does not use additive. Seems like it may do this more after hot but really hard to tell, do not notice all the time. I am planning on checking the condition, proper amount of fluid in axle and see if I notice anything.

Rain not an issue where I live but good thought, thanks. Just regular truck tires, not mudders. Maybe this is the nature of posi trac? I will check the wheel bearings, axle fluid, and if all well..........have a drink.....and call it quits!

UPDATE: Changed the fluid in rear end using Royal purple 75W-140 synthetic, seems to have cleared up the problem.
