04 2500 cruise control issues

I have an early 04 2500 5.9L. The cruise control will come on for about 10-15 seconds on the highway then cut off. It won't come back on until after the key has been cycled. Has anyone experienced this before and know how to fix it?

Yes had the same problem on my 04.5. Had to have the vacuum pump replaced. The 04 has a vacuum system for the cruise and if the pump is weak or you have a leak in one of the lines that is how it acts.

Ok. Thanks. It will go into cruise and hold between 35-60 then cuts out at 60ish. Where would I find this pump to check hoses?

On my truck the pump is on the passenger side on top of the fender well near the firewall. The vacuum lines lead from the pump to a solenoid valve under the battery on the drivers side. The lines are a hard plastic and it is hard to see any leaks. Not sure of the best way to check for leaks in these lines.

There's some wear resistant sheathing by the throttle cable. That seems to be a point that breaks or wears thin, especially if the sheathing moves. Trace the whole line and look for splits or breaks. The vaccum motor usually kicks on when you turn the key on. I've used shrink wrap to fix a broken spot with good success.

Search is a wonderful tool..

CRAAAAZZZZYYYY my 2004 just started doing this last week!

Cruise will turn on and off by itself AND engage to accel beyond the speed limit.

Sometimes tapping the brake will kill it, sometimes hitting cruise on/off works. If neither do, i have the cluth to break the driveline.

What a PITA, when i WANT it to work, i set it.. then shortly after, it will turn off.

Can someone take pictures of the parts/hoses mentioned above?

i took a quick peek under the hood.. i couldnt find anything on my firewall and couldnt make out the vaccum pump under batt tray..

i did find something in another corner of the web about a possible issue in the steering colummn related to switches??

i did notice some odd electrical clicking noises in that area recently..

I did some research and it had to do with the taillight switch being connected to the same circuit and such, and because I have LED taillights its not working. I was told to go back to the stock taillights, which I haven't bought yet, so I can not confirm it works.
