03 Ram 2500 Diesel 5.9 Erratic Idle And Almost Stall
Please Help. I Was Just On A Trip And This Started. When At Idle Around 800 Rpm Or So The Engine Just Shuts Off Momentarily. As It Is Winding Down And Reaches About 400 Rpm It Reves Back To Life And Shoots Up To About 1500 Rpm Before Settling Back Down To 800 Rpm. It Is Intermittent And Does It Only When It Wants To, But Only At Idle. Also When It Has Done This The Idle Seems Rough Then Smooth Then Rough Then Smooth Getting Better With Time Until It Is Not Noticable Anymore, Until The Engine Tries To Die Again And It Repeates The Process Over Again. When Accelorator Is In Any Position Other Then Idle It Seems Fine. Any Ideas? Please Help. I'm At A Loss

when you accelerate does it seem like it has no power? sounds to me like your fuel filter is needing replaced,if you've done that recently, your lift pump is probably needing replaced.i just went through the samething,i have the same truck.if you know where your fuel filter is,well on the back side of the housing is your lift pump, there real easy to change and if you take it to the dealer it cost about 800 plus for them to do it. these trucks 03,04 are known for the lp going out on them, also if you dont use any kind of fuel additive, start using a quart or 2 of 2 stroke oil in a full tank of fuel, this will help w/ the low sulfer problem we have in our fuel.it'll also help lube the lp and injectors, not including the rest of the fuel system, also you need to install a fuel pressure gauge so you can moniter your fuel pressure. your pressure should be 15 to 17 psi on our trucks, the cp3 (injector pump) will take up to 29psi so if its alittle more ,not to worry. good luck

FCA should fix your problem. I've had to change mine twice for the same issue. Be careful mith the bolts they are tight and there is not much head for the torx to catch on but overall if the bolts come out it's an easy fix.

Fca
Fca Is A Fuel Control Actuator. It Is Located On The Back Side Of Your Fuel Pump On The Left Side Of The Engine It Has A Two Wire Plug Going In It And Is Held On With Three Small Torx Bolts And It Is About The Size Of A Shot Glass.
