Regarding the belt shreading, check to make sure the alternator bracket isn't cracked, as that was an issue on 03's. Also, I there was a TSB on adding a clutch over-run clutch that was supposed to cure belt shreading.

OK, thanks forteh TSB's. Will have to check my alt. bracket.

You said, you "believe" your fan is locked up with the AC on.....well, trust me, you WILL know when it is. The thing is, MINE never would, and there is NO way I am going to drive around like that. That fan moves some SERIOUS air, and howls like a S.O.B......I just find it odd, that now, all of a sudden, after 150+K miles, the clutch is just now locking up with the AC on. And it so happens after my wires get cut,and I rewire it. It HAS to be in the way it is wired up is the only explanation. I am going to go check my alt. bracket, and go drive it with the plug, plugged in, and the AC off to see if teh clutch stays locked up. Be back in a few....

OK, now I am REALLY confused Went out to my truck, plugged the plug in. Started up truck, and drove down teh street with AC on, fan clutch is OFF now. AC worked fine @ idle, at speed, everything, and no lockup at the clutch. I have done NOTHING different, have not touched any wires, NOTHING. Just plugged teh plug back in (which I had plugged and unplugged it a dozen times or so,and always the same result...LOCKED up clutch)

Now, clutch is NOT locked up (which is what I want, but I do want the problem solved correctly and to know why)

I am NOT even going to ask ya'll why do you think the clutch is now all of a sudden NOT locked up after doing NOTHING to it

OK guys, here is the newest update. I am thinking that the ECM had to "relearn" the fan controls or something, as my clutch fan works flawless now. I have started it, stopped it, idle, highway speeds, AC on AC off, everything works like it is supposed to.

Now, my theory is just that, a theory, but I have no other explanation for why all of a sudden after about 50 miles of driving, and I have not touched the wires, that my clutch fan works fine now. So, I can only come up with that teh ECM had to relearn the fan. Well, if anyone else still wants to chime in, feel free to....

OK, and here is yet ANOTHER update. Drove my truck a couple hundred miles today. Here is the deal, and keep in mind NONE of this occured BEFORE the wires for my fan got shredded....

1)When I first start the truck in teh morning, and drive down the street, AC on, clutch fan is locked.

or....

2)When I first start the truck in teh morning, and drive down the street, AC OFF, clutch fan is NOT locked

3)After truck warms up, comes up to temp, fan clutch will unlock, and then i I am in stop and go traffic, clutch fan will lock BACK up (AC on)

4)If at any time I turn the AC off, clutch fan will unlock.

5)If I am driving down the road with AC on, and teh clutch fan is locked, and I want it unlocked, all I need to do, is turn the AC off for a few seconds, and clutch fan will unlock, and I can turn AC back on, and clutch will NOT lock back up.

6)I am now getting belt squeal when I turn engine off

7)ALL OF THIS S****

BEFORE my wires got ripped up, my clutch fan would ONLY lock up when temps started to elevate (hauling heavy load, or if I got REAL aggressive with my right foot for awhile) That's it, period, no more, nothing, nada, none of this with the AC on crap. This is driving me ape s***. I am going to find the feed wire that triggers the clutch, and I am going to install a switch to toggle the clutch on and off. If this clutch fan is now operating normal (like the factory intended, I d not see how anyone has not gone insane. I have driven my truck for @ 1 week with this clutch fan locked up, and I can't take it anymore

It makes me wonder if someone before me did not alter teh clutch fan because it was driving them nuts also, and that is why my clutch fan would only lock when temps got elevated, and no other time.

So, tell me, how IS the clutch fan supposed to operate/function (in other words, when is it supposed to lockand unlock according to factory specs???)

Vistronic Fan Control Wiring.

Had the same problem on my '04. The wires were cut coming from the fan clutch and the wires from the fan clutch do not match color for color to the wires from the ECM. After hours of looking on the site I called and talked to a tech. from Borg Warner and he gave me the colors as well as the pin out. They are:

ECM Side: Fan Clutch:
1) K160 18BR/OR Park Lockout solenoid 1) Green
2) K900 18DB/DG Sensor Ground 2) Black
3) F856 18YL/PK Fan Speed Sensor 3) White
4) Not Used 4) Not used
5) K160 18BR/OR 5 Volt Supply 5) Orange
6) F504 20GY/PK Fused Ig. Sw. Output 6) Red

Hope this helps you out. It worked for me. Now my AC keeps from cutting out on high pressure at a stop or in traffic and no more overheating issues!
