03 Fan roar Revisited.....

Way back when a lot of us 03 owners got our trucks many of us experienced the loud fan roar whenever the cooling fan kicked in. Mine did it too and I never took it in to have it looked at. Now, the fan is so quiet that I sometimes wonder if it's even working at all. Although it was pretty loud, it seemed to cool the engine down better than it does now. Just wondering if anyone is still having problems with this....

If you don't hear the loaud roar when the coolant temps or tranny temps or the AC or Defrost is on and the truck is up to temp then you need to take it in and have them check it out. They had to replace the clutch on mine because during the winter at 45 degrees my truck started to overheat and the computer had to kick in and raise the rpms of the truck to cool the engine down. I will admit that recently while it has been relatively cool, around 50 the fan has kicked in to cool things down. Which is a little weird because all the temps were cool on the tranny and coolant. It's goin to the shop on Wedensday so I'll have them look at it then

Yea mine roars just the fan clutch lock up when temp rises on raditor area.
Check it when engine is warm up to operating temp turn engine off and spin fan it should not spin very much if it does spin freely your clutch has gone bad.
Clutch fan in Florida is worthless it roars all the time being are temps are 80 and up!
Proably going to need one myself as I get on her to much

Hmmm... A couple weeks ago I was trying to back my full trailer through a muddy yard and the engine temps got a little high and the engine did start to idle higher. I never did hear the fan come on. Is the fan clutch covered under the engine warranty or just the basic 3/36 warranty??

Another way to ck your fan clutch is to turn your A/C on and with the temp selector at about the 9:00 position let it idle for a while. If it gets hot in the cab, your fan clutch is bad. Just had mine replaced this past week. Third fan clutch.

I had the AC on yesterday and the fan is definitely turning. I could hear it but it is definitely not as loud as it was when new.

Mine only does this when I first start-off, like in the mornings or when it hasn't been ran for several hours. After it warms up completely it seems to stop making the (roar). It cools fine , and I have looked to make sure the fan is spinning @correct rpm. No problems so far.
