03 6 speed HO CR 150k mile buy it or no?
03 6 speed HO CR 150k mile buy it or no?
its a 2003 CR HO, first off whats the difference in the HO and non HO
its a 6 speed, clutch feels good reverse is good on it too, ive heard that is a problem
it has 150k miles on, what do i need to look for, i did not take it on a long drive yet, so have not checked the front end, or for blowby with the fill cap upside down
what else do i need to look for or test
how much do i need to be concerned with injectors and melting a piston if the truck is bone stock? and are there aftermarket injectors that will not go out like the stockers do
price on it is $17,900 is this reasonable?
thanks guys

The main difference between an SO and HO is a negligible amount of HP and torque. The HO being the higher of the two. Plus the HO is the only way to get a 6 speed. Don't know on price, would need more info on the truck and location. I would suggest to hurry up and drive it. If it checks out ok and meets book price buy it before someone else does. They are not easy to come by stock and in good condition.
Mine was $17, with 165k miles. I currently have 195k miles, and had to do the water pump, all 4 ball joints, and ALL universal joints in all driveshafts. The only thing that really worries my about mine is, the HO + Auto tranny. Other than that, it's been great.
did it need the WP balljoints and ujoints right away?
i was hoping to get something that will need alot less work then my usual crap
i have a ramcharger that i am always having to do something on
i had to do a headgasket on my neon a week after i bought it
and my shelby charger is always needing something and i havent driven it in a year
so i just want something thats not so rusty like my RC, and not always needing work

About 6 months after getting it, I took it down for an alignment. Two of 4 BJ were bad, so I had them do all 4. A couple of months later while pulling the 5er, I noticed the vibration of the driveshaft. Found 1 loose UJoint, r&r all 4. Later on while doing brakes, I inspected and found a loose front axle u joint. Again, r&r both. This was all done over a 1 year period, and several trips with the 5er. A couple of things to consider in my situation. I travel 85 miles a day round trip, for work. Once a month we take the 5er out, and a couple of those trips have been out of state. As a firefighter there have been a couple of times that I have been "harder than normal" on the drive train.

i have before in my ramcharger but after rebuilding the front end all was fine with it,
i have read lots of complaints on this with 03's but most of them where from 2004 and chrysler was refusing to agmit the parts where worn
im 6 miles from work

Mine was used with 25k miles and it certainly wasn't babied. It was registered to a local dealer (must have belongs to a mngr or owner) and was used to tow heavy - I could tell from the evidence. It had new tires so I guess the first owner was hard on them. 5th gear went out shortly afterwords - the syncro was ground down to nothin and even ruined the spurs on the gear. It was warranteed and has been great. The diff. bearings were already worn down to nearly zero preload. It was such a hassle to get the trans warranteed, I just filled the diff with 85w140 and it doing fine and it's still quiet. I quess my point is... the truck was tortured and neglected but it was well worth buying and fixing a few things - big thanks to the 7/70 warranty. In 40k+ miles I've replaced the apps (tps) and some ac dampers are broken - a problem on most of the 3rd gens. It's still a brute truck and a keeper for my lifetime! I've never had anything that could go 7k miles and only use 1 pt. of oil. The ctds are good for 300k if they are half-way cared for. You've probably read about the vibration problems, broken alt. brackets, diffs shipped low on lube, on early 03s. All those things don't matter with 150k miles - they were already fixed or never happened. I just wonder about the price - it sounds high but I haven't shopped since 05. Craig
Id maybe haggle a little on the price. If the truck lools really clean, like the preious owner took care of it, i wouldnt be scared.
Mine had 220,000 on it when i bought it. It still looks like it has 20,000 miles on it.
But plan on Ball joints, front end parts, etc. Its just the nature of the beast.

well test drove it today,
truck drives good, definitely has been repainted after more looking around
but it does need tires, thing about the drive i was wondering was why does it have wheel hop if i jump on it
newer looking radiator, no blow by, the cap upside down rolls off just from the motor shaking

yes its a limited slip
with 4.10 gears
9.25 up front
11.5 in the back
well the think is the hood has a little surface rust on the lip and the front end dosent look to have been repainted, and the hazed headlights show they are original, intercooler looks to be original too, these manual trannys have a trans cooler?
and the carfax shows 1 owner no accidents rated $70 above BB value

Mine also has what I would call a shutter when a wheel slips under hard acceleration. No trans cooler. But there are mods you can make if you find it necessary. With the info you have provided it sounds like a pretty decent truck.
