03 400kmi what's it worth and would you buy it?
Just looked at a 03 with 401,000 on the OD. They used it to move trailers to Louisiana. Automatic, 4x4, 373's. Looks good some seat wear, sounded good running. I'm not sure about the auto, I've never had a auto trans. Does a auto shift down to third and not really pick up any speed if your doing 60mph?
Thanks for your insight.

Yep, even though the engine might be fine, or needs to be replaced for cheap, the rest of the parts have 400k miles on them, not worth it to me to take the risk of alot of parts wearing out, front axle, seals, transmission, etc, etc...

If the body was solid,id buy it for a plow truck. It probably has the same hours on it as most 150K mile daily drivers do.My total guess on the price is 7000-9000,in the near future you may need to "invest" a lot of money,if the engine, trans an rear all needed rebuilding or attention in the next yr or 30000 miles,it could cost a lot more than its worth, and you'd still have a 400K truck when it was all done.IMO,this truck is a great buy for a mechanically inclined person, who wants the nice looks, quiet cab, engine and room of a 3rd gen,but not the $$ or credit to buy one.It is my kind of truck, because i can fix just about anything on it myself,if you have to pay todays labor rates of 75-100 an hr for all repairs ,and cant handle most of them yourself,do not buy this truck.

I don't think fixing is going to be a problem. Like was said before the truck looks like maybe a 100k truck. But when you think about it 400,000 and lets say average mpg was 16mpg that's 25,000 gallons of fuel through the pump and injectors. How much wear is that on the fuel system?

if the price was right i would buy it. if the truck looks good, and the under side looks good, and no damage, why not????
i thought these cummins were bullet proof, and that why every body buys them because the good forever.
if you really think about it, more miles is not always worse. we have company truck where i work, and they are gasers, but the ones that never seem to stop for long and have lots of miles racked up in a short time, seem to work the best. there is less heat cycles in the starter, alt, etc. we have trucks that sit more often, and don't get the miles put on them, and they seem to be the ones needing a new alt, and starter, fuel pumps, brakes, etc.
i would consider it anyway, but i would go through it and look it over really good. take into account that you might have to put some money into it, and factor that into acount when looking at some thign newer, or with less miles and more money.
