03 or 04HO

Hello all. I'm looking to make my first big leap into debt and deisels I have 3 options (all black), all the same mileage and price.

1. 03 auto black leather
2. 04HO auto
3. 04HO 5sp

Since I'm not really pulling anything major the power loss is sorta shadowed out by the leather, however, 100ft/lbs of torque gained by the HO sounds nice too. I've read some about the trans and 48re but I'm not sure if those are points that are deciding factors. I was just looking for some details/feedback to help me make my decision on which one. I drove a 6sp and didn't like it at all. My current Jeep is a 5sp and I found that I couldn't enjoy the 6.

I'm not complaining about my situation at all. I'm just happy to have the opportunity to make these the decisions. Thanks for the info!

Black! ouch!

04HO didn't come with a 5 speed. I am not sure if 5 speed was available with the cummins in '04.

Pick 1 or 2. Check the valve cover placard on the drivers side of the engine. If it says "305 HP" for the '04 or "325 HP" for the '04.5 on it, it is an HO. Otherwise, not so.

I agree... pretty sure there was no SO option by 04, so that should be a 6 speed/305 HP motor. If that's the case, I'd go with that one.

I have a 03 with the 6spd and HO, its been flawless since i bought it.
Also the 04's have head rest for the rear seats, the 03's didn't have these.

here is the one

here is the other

and the other

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...03&cardist=147

i know something doesn't line up here. The one 03 says HO. Any comments about the leather interior? I heard that after 02 the leather went to crap. I did drive the 6sp and just thought it was SO much shifting. I like manual but I felt consumed by it and it seemed slow. While the auto that I drove just seemed to FLY

If you go with the auto get the HO, it should have the 48re tranny. It's a lot stronger than a stock 47re.

I have an 03 with the HO and 48RE auto. I like it a lot and the mileage is better than the 04's from what I've read

Today I put down a deposit on the 03 HO auto. I'm assuming this has the 48re correct? Doesn't much matter now considering none of the other people would budge. Anywho. Thanks for all the input, I plan on moving a thread in the mod section to see what I can get away with without voiding my warranty. I would like to put a straight pipe on because I"m cheap and don't mind noise thx for all of your help.

FINAL QUESTION! heh. How long do you guys let your diesels warm up? I currently have an 87 wrangler I6 and let it warm up about 10 minutes every morning. So what do you do

<30d
30-60d
60+d ??

Also, if its after a work day do you sit in the parking lot? The truck has 36k miles on it. I just wanna take care of it as well as I can ...I'm new to diesels and I'm not sure about things like this. Thanks.

Well, She Fargon lied to me. I drove 3 hours to get it and when I got there it was beautiful (the 03 auto ''HO'') I took it for a ride and popped the hood and noticed that on the block under 'advertised horse power it said 250' guess that means SO. I was ******, it wasn't the 'deciding' factor but it would have certainly been a cherry on top. They quickly changed the subject and after walking around looking very ****** off I ended up getting it anyway and LOVE it.

yeah it has the 47re but I rarely pull anything except a small pop-up or a 14ft boat. I was in quick need of a truck and I didn't have the luxury of waiting for a true HO. Anyway, thanks for al of your help and I hope to be a contributing member of these forums now that I'm a new owner thanks again.

O, I did notice that this ad was the only one where they specified that they are not responsible for any inconsistancies in their ads....Valley Dodge in CT....BOOOOOO thats my 2c. Thanks again.

Ok, after reading someone's post about the 235/250/310hp motors I'm hoping there is a slim chance that I might still have the 48re...Is there a way I can tell this?? Thanks again for all of your help.
