Ramdez,
I've had 2 trucks with 47re trannys and pulled the crap out of them! If you drive it properly it will last a long time! The question is how was it previously used? Was it serviced? People are having problems with the 48re also!(adding 100hp and 150# of torque will do it) Yes the 48re is supposed to be better and I wish mine had one but I haven't had any problems! You said you weren't going to pull much with it anyway so it gets harder to abuse it! I'd take it to a good tranmission shop or dealer get it serviced and find out it's current condition. Then enjoy!

SO- built after 01/03 where to have 48re in them as they no longer made 47re
also behind shift levers on tranny if there are three wires on switch then you have a 47re if five wires then it is a 48re.

Put her in 2. If she shifts from 1st to second, and then you feel the TC lockup....48re

I'm not sure if there is a way to tell by physically looking at the transmission, but the window sticker or build sheet would tell you for sure. With the HP rating being 250 with the auto, you can almost bet that it is the 47re not the 48re. I don't recall them putting the 48re in any non-HO configurations, but I could be wrong. If you like the truck, though, I say drive it and don't sweat it.

As for what you should change first, I'd at least change the oil and filter. If you're certain that it was well maintained you may not have to worry about changing anything lese until time comes along. If you're really paranoid, you can change every fluid in the vehicle just for piece of mind.

At some production date in 03 the 47re was dropped and the 48re was the only trans used. Any D.C. dealern can pull the build sheet in a few minutes. There was a certain month the 47re was cut off.I don't know that month.

It is SO.

It does have the DG8

It was produced in 4/03

I'm going to take it for maint. next week and I'll have them tell me for sure. But that would rock if it's 48re. Kinda stinks that I cannot make the same comp changes that dodge made and get the HO without voiding my warranty. Anywho. Thx for the help. I think my first move after doing some maint. is going to be a straight pipe and silencer ring remove...will removing the ring void my warr? I'm going to ask the dealer this.. Also, will it just give me a louder turbo whistle?? Thx for all the help. This forum has been very helpful.

Also the servicing has been every 3-5k since new. I have the carfax report and it was the best maint. Currently has 37k and BTW I'm lovin it. I said to myself right before I got it. "I'm buying the reliability...gas mileage..blah blah. I didn't have it for 2 hours and wanted to find out how I could get more power "
