5.9 fuel filter not easy to remove

Greetings,
I was changing out my 2006 Ram 2500 5.9L fuel filter today and after draining, loosening and unscrewing the cap, the filter and cap was loose but could not be lifted out of the housing.

It lifted a little bit and stopped. It sort of moved side to side (very little) but would not move up past a certain point.

I didn't feel it would be appropriate to force it, although of course I had a 3lb hammer ready just in case.

Having never changed this type of filter before I decided to put everything back together and do some research.

Nothing I have found about fuel filter changing of this type mentions the "snag" I ran into, so I figured a post might shed some light on this.

Who knows, maybe you just have to pull harder.

Thanks for your time.

you probably just have to pull harder, mine have always been super easy to remove.

Any pics to verify its the right thing?

I'm pretty sure I've gotten a slight snag every time I have changed the filter. Just give a little bit more of a tug, usually you'll hear more fuel spill out of the filter and into the housing when it breaks free of the "snag".

The bottom of the filter does mate to a seat and sometimes it just needs a little jerk to free it.

Gentlemen,

(I may be assuming too much with that.)

Anyway, I lured a "little jerk" ( I didn't qualify,....... whoops, my wife just informed me that I would have.) over this morning to help me "pull harder" and doggone if it didn't come out.

Briefly I was very happy. But then after comparing the new filter, a Lieber Finer, with the original, a Mopar, they were very different in size. Went to the computer to verify the numbers and they were correct. Beware, it appears the wrong filter was in the correct box.

Went to the Chrysler dealership and bought the correct filter and using my finely honed fuel filter changing skills replaced it very quickly.

Thanks again for the input, couldn't have done it without you!

Or something.
