Wow!!! $20.90 for a block heater!!!!!!
I finally got my block heater working. I was gonna just replace the cord at a cost of $25.00 from my local Cummins dealer but when he told me the heater was only $20.90 I went ahead and got one of those at the same time. it turns out that it was the cord that was bad and I now have a spare heater for the future. The best price I got at any dealer was $61.00 plus shipping.

Well, we do have a DC distributor as a sponsor so I don't want to say anything bad, but the dealer prices are very high. I am glad someone on this board had the part numbers for me.
And thank god I have a Cummins dealer on my way home....

Don't get me wrong,,, I'm not slamming dealerships (I'm sure that comes from higher up) and I think some dealership owners probably feel the same way as us..... the parts pricing is unbelievable! It's not only DC,,,, but all the big manufacturers. Ford, GM, Harley Davidson, Honda, Yamaha, all of the boat companys, the RV companys, are all good examples. It's almost as if they don't want you to buy their parts! It just doesn't make good sense to me. I'm a Die-Hard Harley owner,,,, always have been,,,, always will be,,,, but when I learned that I could go to any auto parts store and get points and a condensor for a 6 banger Chevy for a couple of bucks compared to over 10 bucks from the H-D dealer,,,,,, which ones do ya think I been buying for the last 20 some years?? :
Re:Wow!!! $20.90 for a block heater!!!!!!
I hear what you're saying.. I was quoted $180.00 to $200.00 for rear brake shoes!!! Who in their right mind would pay that much at the dealership when they can go to NAPA and probably get them for half that?? Not me!! Some people read the owner's manual to their new vehicle where the mfr says to only use their brand parts and supplies and they think their warranty will be void if they use some other brand!
Re:Wow!!! $20.90 for a block heater!!!!!!
Thats why they call them STEALERS. We have a place here called Pro Parts. I don't know if it is national, but there are at least two here in Greenville, South Carolina. They are a wholesaler and I buy as many parts from them as I can. For example. The dealer wanted $53 bucks for a new serpentine belt. Auto Zone gets $19 and this place wants $15. I used to have a GM Dieasel van that my wife drove

Dodgezilla
I am glad that the numbers worked for you. One day when I was ordering some books for the trucks at work I also ordered one for me.
Cummins sells the parts catalogs for Dodge engine by year. They cost about $40. and are available from the Cummins web site (Power store). They also have available a custom parts book for your exact engine. Send them the serial number and they will print the book with just the parts used in it.
Tom
