Question Windshield Replaced & Weird Sound

Well guys on the way to work the other day a rock came off a dump truck & got my windshield... So after dealing with the insurance company I got it replaced today and picked the truck up later on. Well now my turbo is louder then it has ever been. It almost sounds like someone drilled a hole in my firewall and installed a jet engine in there. My question is is there a filter or gasket that goes beneath the black plastic cover that overlaps the windshield? The glass company said they didn't take anything out but I never got as much nosie in the cab as I do now... Any Ideas???

I had my windshield replaced once before and everything was fine so they had to do something wrong or forget a part... I guess you can't coun't on anyone these days..

Thanks,
Engcogod

As stupid as it sounds, it may be a "thin" windshield.

I had mine replaced about 2 years ago and the noise levels went way up afterwards. After doing all kinds of searching for the cause, we came up empty handed, so I just got used to it. Anyways, I had a rock take the windshield out right in front of the driver in the line of site so I had it replaced again.

It ended up being changed out at a different shop than I usually use. The increased noise went way down. It ended up being the first glass shop used a cheaper and thinner grade replacement windshield. When the old one was compared to the new one, a noticeable difference in thickness.

It might not be what is causing your noise increase, but other than the sealant to hold the glass in place, there is nothing there in the way of a gasket or baffle or anything.

Just thought I'd throw out my experience with this and see if it helps!

the cheap " thin Brand arround here is "criminex"

FWIW we only use LOF or PPG, the windshields fit better and are alot better Quality

your problem could also be an air leak under the cowl... these dont normally leak water, (under the cowl)... you can test this real easy...

spray a foaming glass cleaner (like sprayaway) across the windshield / dash line... use a air comperssor on the outside and blow along the bottom of the cowl... any bubbles inside means a leak

There is a rubber seal on the cowl that may have come loose during installation. I've had my windshield replaced a couple of times and each time, the technician opened the hood to remove the plastic trim piece at the bottom of the windshield and in doing so, he knocked loose the rubber seal on the passenger side. It makes a very noticeable difference in the turbo sound in the cab. If it's loose, just slip it back over the edge and you're done.
