Window motor replacement help

My passenger side window just recently stopped working. It was working fine then only randomly now not at all. I believe it to be the motor because there is power getting out to the motor. Has anyone ever replaced the window motor or the whole assembly, or could it be he window regulator. Any help or insite is greatly appreciated, thanks, Tom.

You might try smacking the motor area with a rubber mallet. The passenger side window on my 2002 quit working and I tried that trick and it has been working from then on. I had power to the motor also.

Before you take out the motor check your switches. They are cheap and do go bad. A cleaning can bring them back at times.

X2 on the switches. The back can be popped off them and something like a nail file used to clean up the contacts. If thats not it then the motor is the issue and is an easy replacement.

It doesn't look easy to replace I appears to way inside the door with not much access at all. How do you replace it anyway?

Take off the plastic interior door panel - you might destroy some of the little plastic barbs that hold it to the door but they are cheap to replace.

From there you can get the window regulator out, with the motor on it.

The only reason I'm posting this is because when mine went out I decided to open the motor - it is busted, right? Can't make it any worse... and found one of the carbon brushes was worn and had collected some debris on it. Cleaned the brushes and commutator and it worked. Put it back together, still works a couple years later.

Hardest part was getting the plastic panel back securely - had to buy some of the little barbs. They have a name, someone here will post it, or you can just take one of the broken ones to the auto parts and they will sell you a little blister pack of them for a couple of dollars.

Regards,
Andrew

PS my '95 is at 521,000 miles now - these trucks are amazing!

These are the Christmas tree fittings in the door panel.

Those are the exact ones. They sell a tool at the auto parts store, that is supposed to allow you to disengage them without tearing them up.

Once you get the plastic panel off you can get to the window regulator. The electric motor was either $85 or $185 (it was a while ago) but, as I noted, I got away without replacing it, just cleaned the brushes.

Good luck fixing it! Let us know how it went, ok?

My driver side just quit three inches from closed.and the wires to the switch are hot. I'm leaving in two days on 700 mile trip. May have to go with duct tape. Which two wires make it go up? (96)

Thermal link

Another possibility

If the window motors are built anything like the seat motors there will be a thermal link inside the motor that goes bad. If so, you can remove the end cover from the motor and solder across the thermal link (lift it from it's tabs first so as not to melt the plastic) to repair the motor.

I greased the bottom track and shot the the channels with silicon spray and the window works fine. But whew! The stink!
