Started to change the rotor on the driver's side and noticed there is no thin spacer like I found on the Pass side is this normal? Do they even need that thin spacer

Yes it is normal on the passenger side. It was a fix by the factory to keep the trucks from pulling to the right. The spacer will sometimes stick to the back of the wheel and get rotated when rotating the tires. Some have had a mysterious pull to the right problem after a tire rotation that's been cured by finding the spacer and putting it back where it belongs.

Actually the spacer can be on either size and comes in three thicknesses.
Most people who have removed the spacer don't notice any difference.

this is interesting.

My truck pulls slightly to the right. No spacers on either side. Does this mean I might be able to 'straighten it out' by adding a spacer on the right side? I took the truck to a front end shop that I trust shortly after buying it, and they didn't find any alignment problems.

It's worth a shot, and it supposedly "fixes the issue". Come to think of it, Goodyear has been doing my tire rotations and the truck does pull a smidge to the right.

Hmm. I'll find out tomorrow when I get it back.

The issue is varation in SCRUB of tires.
