volatage at horn wiring

I swapped in a cheaper set of air horns over the weekend, and in stead of wiring direct to a 12v source, i hooked up the hot wire right to the horn wire.

Anyone know if im getting 12v there or less? just didnt pack the punch I was expecting.

I hooked it up this way so I wouldnt have to mess around with a seperate horn switch.

I do not think that there is enough power on that circuit , limited by relay .

You could use the hot horn wire to trigger a new relay that is also fed by 12v to power the new horns. That way you still wont need a seperate switch and they will blast when you honk the regular horn and will pull their power from the 12v source.

In most cases , relays are operated by grounding one side of the coil [ inside of the relay ] , the buttons on you steering wheel are the grd. for the relay .
