Underhood light switch?
Underhood light switch?
Anyone know where the switch is that activates the light in the engine compartment? I noticed when I hit a bump or drive on a rough road, I can see the light flicker from under the hood. I'd like to at least locate the switch to see what I have to do to adjust it or modify it if it's non-adjustable. It's for the truck in sig. Thanks!
my 2001 3500 appears to be a mecury type switch. As the hood goes about 1/2 way down/up it cycles off/on. As far as I know these underhood lights mostly operate this way. There probably isn't a switch for this. You can tell by using meter on wires to light assembly and see if one is hot all the time. Then you will know....
I noticed mine do that on my way home after I bought it. I pulled out my bulb and just carry a flashlight if I need to look under the hood. The little light isnt all that bright anyway.
You can add a simple inlie switch. As said above, one wire is always hot. Snip it, add a switch. Then you don't have to dig out the bulb when you need it, just flip the switch.
While your at it, add another light so you can actually see something with the underhood light on at night.

I can see it flash through a space between the hood and cowling while driving at night. It probably helps that the foam weather seal has disappeared allowing for a better view. The first time it happened I thought something was sparking under the hood until I realized what it was.
