Tranny question and loosing power

I put my OBDII reader on to see if my truck had any codes as it is getting progressively worse mileage. The only code I got was 1693. I took the truck to a tranny shop because he said he could pull any codes on the truck and diagnose my tranny. He said there were no codes and I need a tranny rebuild. He quoted me $2800 for a rebuilt tranny with shift kit and torque converter. Is this a good price? What is a shift kit?

Could I still have a code on my truck that couldn't be read by the snapon scanner he used?

I plan to put on a Juice/Attitude and will pull heavy maybe once a year. What should I look for in a tranny rebuild and what is replaced in a rebuild?

Any shops you know in the Salem or Portland area I should take my truck?

Edit: Oops, this is in the wrong section. I'm reposting the question on 24v.
