Last noob question for me this evening, sorry for flooding your boards with them

Is there a tire out there that is exceptionally good in rain, snow, mud and other crappy road conditions that will have good treadwear, and great traction? Does towing have any effect on what kind of tire is needed?

I can deal with anything that IS NOT firestone or one of its spin-offs... small towns have few locations to get tires and the people at our local firestone place are complete jerks =/

 

I am going through these same questions in my head right now as i want to buy tires before Winter. You also have load range questions to deal with as everything from NON rated to load range 'E' tires are available for these trucks. I found www.tirerack.com to be an exellent source of info and good prices. first put in the brand and year of truck and hit GO. ten put in model and hit GO. on the next screen at the top you will see some blue boxes and one will say SHOP BY SIZE. hit hat and after you put in yuor size and hit GO again it will give many choices you can even narrow it down to a certain brand . pick out what you want and over to the right you see SPECS when you hit that it will give you a colored and numbered scale of ratings on the tires on evertthing from wet road d& snow traction to overall satisfaction. hope that helps. I agree- I have the TA KO'S and they are the best all around tire I have ever ran.

 

BFGs are really good all around tires but the sets I have had have not lasted as long as I would like. Load rating is a big consideration if you plan on hauling weight - especially for longer runs under load. The trade-off is that a tire that can take load and heat is a different compound than a lighter rated tire so sidewall flex, footprint stability, ride characteristics, and longevity are all different. <br><br>All manufacturers make good tires so it is kinda a crap shoot as to which to choose. The TireRack is a good source fo rcomparative info. HTH.

I run a set of bfg a/t Great tire but they are a little pricey I think. I got mine used for 400 with 200 miles on them. brand new they are almost 200 dollars. I drive and pull a lot. I am in and out of fields and other stuff on the farm so I need a meaty tire. I usally go through a set of tires every year. Had my truck 6 years and have put 5 sets of tires on it.<br>

 

;D I have to agree with the above parties. BFG all terrains. They have a good load rating, deep tread pattern, not noisy. I Love everything but the price :'(

 

I was looking at BFG A/T's at Costco yesterday. Has anybody mounted 265/75's on stock 6.5&quot; rims? BFG recommends 7&quot; minimum. Did they look OK or could you tell the rims were too narrow?
