Tire size recomendation for 97

I have the standard 16 inch chrome rims on my 97. What is the largest size tire I can put on these rims without problems. I am trying to fill the wheel will up more. I think I currently have 245 75 R 16's. Any size and brand recomendations would be appreciated.

You can phisically mount a 40" tire on your stock wheels, we need to know if your truck has a lift or not.
What size would you like to run?
You can run a 285/75r16 without any problems.

We have 315/75R16 Maxxis Mudders on our 97 with no lift. That said I did trim the plastic on the front bumper from about 1/2" on the bottom up to nothing at top and we removed the front mud flaps. Against the lock they will rub the upper control arm and the rub on the back of the fender well. They arn't doing any damage but they keep the dirt off that part of the plastic. The rears have no issues. The rear sway-bar is missing also.

As far as the tires them selves I was very impressed with how the perform. As for life we'll wait and see. They only have about 1K miles right now. I got them off E-BAY w/free shipping and mounted/balanced at a friends shop.

I have 285/75 R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts on stock rims and they fit like a charm. No rubbing or anything else going on. I had Pep Boys Dakotas in the same size before the Bridgestone - you can see what they looked like in my gallery. So far, with a little over 3K on the new tires, I like them. I also got them siped so they'd have a little better traction and to help extend their tread life.

Tx, if you get 305/70 the diamater would be the same as your 285s, just wider.

I'm running 255/85R16. They are 33 1/2 inches tall but about the same width as the stock tires (maybe 1/2 inch narrower). Load range D not E which the stock tires were and they fit on the stock rims perfectly. When I was looking for replacements, this was the tallest size I could get that still fit the stock rim properly and would not run on the control arms.

Thanks DT!

I dunno, ilike my 285's but ive thought of some 255 85 16's I like the narrower tread for the mud and so forth, but most of my wheelin is done in sand, like my deer lease, and those 285's i have just skim over it quite easily in 4wd...

i guess i should clarify tho, i like the larger tires, just not the rear end ratio, ive thought about running 305s or 315s if i had a 4.10 rear end, the 3.55 is good, but since i tow, i dont want tires much larger than 285's on it, thus my gearing wont be affected as much.....

Tx

I vote for 255/85R16. Tall and skinny.
