Turbo Recomendation

I will soon be getting a set of Mach 2's to go with my Edge Comp. I was told that the Dodgezilla with the WG 14 was a good choice. Someone else recomended a PDR HX 40. I dont tow that heavy, usually around 10,000 lbs a few times a year.

I was just wondering which of these two turbos you all would choose and why?

Thanks

A PDR HX40 is probably your best bet.

Could you explain why it would be my best bet?

Money Aside, the Best turbo to get would be a "B" Turbo..

A KSB1-ex4.

THis will spool nearly identical to stock, and flow similar to an HX-40.

I have a customer running Mach 1.5's and a COMP, with an Automatic tranny, and it's just like driving a stock truck, with double the HP......

Does he tow and what are his EGTs like?

Thanks,

George

He does not tow, and with his Drag on 5x5 he can hit 1,400*.

If you turned your COMP back down when towing, the EGT's would remain safe.

He does not have the KSB1-ex4, He actually has the KSB1-ex3, which is for use with a 3" Downpipe. The KSB1-ex4 would probably lower EGT's, but your .5 bigger EDM's would bring them up to where he is.

You will be safe towing with Mach 2's, COMP off, and KSB1-ex4.

Be sure to not get the fastest spooling one out there.. With Mach 1.5's and 5x5,, he is pushing nearly 50PSI boost.. your 2's would push more boost than that. The slower spooling turbo will also run lower peak boost #'s.

Money is somewhat of a factor, so between the Dodgezilla and the PDR HX40, I still would like to hear some opinions about them. BTW, I can get the Dodgezilla at a discount because it is slightly used( if price seems to be the deciding factor between the two).

Keep the comments coming, I have a week or so to decide before the install.

I myself would look at other turbo's like the b1-2 or maybey an htb2 it may be more money but with a piers40 or the dodgezilla you will be watching your pyro anytime you get on it. Just my two cents since i have ran a dodezilla and a 40 with high egts hit 1500 by 50mph from a stop :now with a b1-2 reaching around 90mph before i can hit 1500 is a big difference.

I need something I can tow with. If I have to tow with comp turned down or off that is fine.

I'd reccomend a PDR40/16. It would be laggy on an auto with that setup but you wont really notice it on a 6spd and it should keep it plenty cool with the box off or on lower settings for towing. PDR40 kept my mach 3's cool empty, towing it would have got kind of hot but keeping the RPM's up fixed that.

Since I am empty alot of the time would the HX40 allow some runs on 5x5 when it is necessary to educate those pesky ricers and the like?

I guess what I am getting at is that I need the turbo to be able to handle some hard runs as well as be towing friendly.

It will handle hard run's fine. Egt's will get hot but not too quickly. I could bury my 1600* pyro with my mach3's and Dcomp on 5x5 but it took a little more than an 1/8th mile to get there.

I see you're in salem oregon. You might try going over to www.nwbombers.com and posting on the forum this same question. There are some people in your area that have similar setups and would let you drive their trucks so you can get a good idea of things before you lay down the $$$ on the purchase.

Rip is doing my install and I trust his opinion; the fact that he guarantees what he sells doesnt hurt either. If I'm not happy, we'll figure something else out. I was just wanting to get some opinions from guys running these turbos here.

Just about all of my parts are from Rip. I have been very happy with everything I have gotten from him. He sold me a Hot Rod 40 turbo. It is like a modified version of the Dodgezilla. Great turbo. Ask him about it. You will be happy. Performance wise, and price wise.
