Tested ABS today/VP44 dead?

On my way to work this morning, topped an overpass @75mph, and at the bottum was police car w/lights flashing behind a truck stopped in the fast lane. I was unable to move over, so ABS got tested for first time since buying truck, they work pretty good, but I think I will get the GM wheel cylinders here soon. NEway, after sitting in left lane waiting for traffic to let me in the right lane, police car stops traffic, and lets truck get to shoulder. It was a Dodge 24V, I bet his VP just went south. Has anybody ever had their VP die suddenly and cause an accident?
