Tailgate light

Hi, I was wondering why some trucks had the tailgate light on them. The one with the three lights in a bar. Well my friend had a 95 cummins 2500 and before that I thought the lights were only on 3500's but his was a 2500 so that kinda threw me off. Can anyone explain this to me? Also where can I buy one of those lights for my truck if I dont have on it? Thanks

Re:Tailgate light

The Dept. of Transportation rules state any vehicle 7' and wider require the 3 ID markers front and rear (AKA duallies) as well as extremity markers (dually fenders) and snowmobile decks etc. Your friends truck has had them added or a dually tailgate put on. Dodge has used the Trucklite sealed beam units up until 2003 and can be bought at any Trucklite dealer. They are model 15 Trucklite and a part number can be brought up on the Trucklite website under sub heading ID/Clearance lights, also available are Model 15 LED to fit same bases. LED's are benficial if you have a newer truck that has the computor tie in that monitors voltage and will not overheat your Dodge lightweight wiring. PK

Re:Tailgate light

my 3500 did not have the lights when i bought it. got the bar and lights from the dealer as stated before. was told that NAPA had the lights, but do not know for sure. The factory set was super easy. all I had to do was plug it in. they seem to be pretty duarable as none have quit ant the tailgate gets dropped/removed quite often.
