Re:Tailgate light

There should be a wiring harness under the truck on the drivers side with a plug you can just hook into there should be no cutting or splicing.

Re:Tailgate light

ok cool thanks. Now do I have to drill a hole in my tailgate and run the wires through that down under the truck? Or how does this work?

Re:Tailgate light

You should have to drill holes for the screws anyways right? then it should feed through the tailgate.

Re:Tailgate light

Assuming you want your new light to actually light up - yes you will have to run +12 V dc to it. You will either need to tap into the wires that send 12V to the brakelights OR tap into a switched 12V source, depending on how you want the light to function. Thats about as easy as it gets. You will likely need a voltmeter or 12V test light to detemine which wires you need to use.

Re:Tailgate light

Dude,

This aint hard. You already have the info. you need to do the job.

I will try and clarify, you either have to splice a wire from your tailight cct. to the new light (this will make it function as another brakelight) OR you can run a wire from a switched 12V cct. - this way the light would be on whenever the ignition is on. I don't know what more info. you could be looking for....

Re:Tailgate light

Take the light bar. Drill the 3 holes for the screws and 1 hole for the wire fish the wire through the tailgate and through the plug off center on the drivers side. Then fist it behind the bumper then there is a wire harness back there. The plug should alreay be there and all you have to do is plug in if there is no plug tap into the running lights done!

Thats what I was looking for, how to mount the light. Thanks again Jamie. I'll let you know how it comes out when I get it done.

Re:Tailgate light

When I did this on my 1500 I wired it into the wiring for the license plate light. Wired this way they work just like tail lights, no flashing or extra switches required.

Re:Tailgate light

Good Idea and its right there close. If there is no plug like Jamie is talking that is how i will do it because I want them to act as running lights, not brake lights. Thanks
