Studdering at 53 MPH

I have a 2002 dodge dually automatic. When I am in third gear at about 53, I get a stuttering like the truck is not getting enough fuel. It is fine leading up to 53 and after passing 53. It never does this in overdrive. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

thanks

Tim

Sounds like the touque converter is shuttering? Does this happen on lock up of the OD?

No. only happens in 3rd gear. I always manually shift from 3rd to OD and from OD to 3rd. In 3rd at 53 I am usually getting ready to shift up unless I am on city streets. Anyway, it ONLY happens in 3rd.

Strange.

Thanks
