so i have some play in the column bushing as well as a little play in the steering box( no wander but play side to side on output shaft) but the clunk I get is felt in the floor, i don't get any clunk in the steering wheel?? could this still be the cause???

also, I have removed both the front and rear sway bars to eliminate that possibility to no avail. tightend all 6 loose bolts that the transmission ars hats left loose. I've even removed the right fronT cab mount which makes the clunk harder to feel(but thats just cause its not tight to the frame)

I am still lost.....

thanks

In my case the noise is the balljoints. They look solid but when you pry against them with a prybar you can see theres slop in the joint. I bought some cheapies just to see how long they last =p
Anyhow, I can see the thuren bar move about 1mm over the ball and thats normal. I took it off and cannot do it by hand, only under a heavy load. Don says thats fine if anyone else has the same prob. The thump under the floor could be ball joints in your case also.

cool, what do u mean by loose? bushings are sloppy?
when do u plan on doing this repair? I was going to order some control arm bushings and replace them just to see if it corrects the prob aswell.....

as for the ball joints...I'll go over them again cause it sure feels like that could be it

Update

I got the upper control arms installed and it has made a huge difference.....just waiting on the bolts and eccentrics for the lowers and then I will install the ssi adjustable ones. The uppers were shot....both sides the steel collar had worn loose from the arm.

more to come

Mine's doing that too. The shop says steering box. Everything else is new and tight and when I turn the wheel it clunks and can be felt directly on the box.

update part 2

put the right side lower adjustable control arm last night. WOW, what a pia to get the front bolt out. Had to use a torch.....no time to do the left side. I do notice a difference already and I also got a turn or 2 on the lower shock bolts.....90% of the clunck at my feet is gone. Will keep the updates coming.
