Exclamation Stock crome rim width of my 98 4x4

I want to run LT315/70R16 Toyo open country M/T and it recommends a 8-10 inch rim. Some tire places are saying I can get by with a 7.5 but others say no way has to be 8 at least.

Stock wheels are 6.5 inches wide.

Thanks guys

I will be (maybe) installing a Carli starter system hence the bigger tire (I really want a 35in tall tire), I just didn't want to buy rims right now

Most tire makers don't approve 285 on 6.5w wheel. They want at least 7.5" wide that I've seen.

A full inch too narrow is far from ideal... But there might be some wiggle room. Or not.

We run 295 & 305 BFGs on the '98 stock 6.5" rims - no clearance issues on the truck, but we usually just keep that wheel/tire combo on the aluminum GN... and yes, those skinny rims do tend to pull the shoulder up a tad!

Yeah, that actually is correct Hohn....thats why I said "a 285 is the biggest tire I would run on this narrow of a wheel."

Even so, there are some tire shops that might not mount 285's on these wheels.

OUCH! That sucks but you can't blame Summit for UPS sending your wheels through the smashing department.

Actually, it wasnt really UPS's fault...it was poor packaging by the manufacturer
