Question Stereo Removal

The P.O. on my 99 upgraded the speaker wire on the stereo and now when the fader stick is moved to the rear there is silence. I figure all 4 speakers are running off the front chanels so I'm probly only getting half the power. Are there any tricks to getting the stereo out?

Nope, no trick at all. All you have to do is gently pop the outer trim piece off. I think there are 7 or 8 or so places around the dash that it connects to. Just have your steering wheel adjusted all the way down ( makes it easier). After that and a few screws later (ones that hold the head unit in), the unit should slide right out. Just be careful when removing the wiring harness and antenna wire from the stock unit, you dont want to pull any of those outta the harness, cuz its a pain to fix if you do (past expeirence in my case)

OK believe it or not I finally got some time to look into this. I ended up eliminating all the aftermarket (heavy wire) and just reconnectiong the stock colors. I replaced the aftermarket 6x9s that were in the door and thats when I noticed some sort of crossover just hanging there in the door. the shape and the fact that it had a spot with some thermocouple grease leads me to think that the cross overs used the oem speakers as a heat sync. What have you all done to eliminate or deal with the crossover (Mounting, cooling etc) ?

All 4 speakers working now on there appropriate channels. woo hoo!!
