steering shaft

I just had my recall plastic strap fix on my steering shaft put on after 262,000 miles. What a pitiful waste of time. The dealer told me the strap fix was superseded by a new steering shaft . I ended up with the strap. I'm convinced dealers are the main reason why we should do our own work.Has anybody out there replaced their steering shaft and how difficult? I was looking at the Borgeson shaft. What suggestioins. Thanks Bek

Yeah! The dealers that design and build these trucks are really stupid.

I remember some members have posted something about the Borgeson, but I do not remember any details.

I have wondered if anyone has used one, and what did it fix or do for them. If it really makes a difference in terms of ride quality or steering firmness and feel, I might look into it more.

I just put a PSC box and Borgeson shaft on my 96 1500 maybe 6 months ago. My old box was worn out and puking oil from the pitman shaft and the steering shaft had that annoying popping feeling. Both problems are fixed but the Borgeson shaft is nice and rusted now and pretty much looks like cr@p. For $200 they could make an attempt at zinc chromate or some environmentally friendly rust "retardant". I believe they consider paint a modification which could affect the warranty if that is important to you.
As far as performance, the steering is nice a tight, just like new.

I also have the borgeson......put it on a couple months back. My truck had an annoying pop when the wheels were cut.......the borgeson took care of that. The slop in my stock steering shaft wasn't in the u-joints, it was where the lower shaft slides into the larger one. I imagine that something could be done to tighten the assembly up, but I'm not sure what.
