Steering problems

OK, lets start with I'm not happy today. My truck wanders all over the road and the steering wheel will move a good 3inches before the tires move. Today I installed a lukes link and a dss stabilizer along with a reman steering box. I spent quite a bit needless to say. The responce is better and the truck turns easier now but, the friggin thing is still takes 3inches before the tires move. I checked all the front end parts and tried to and [hopefully didn't void the warranty] adjust the worm gear with no luck. Can someb ody tell me how and if they have adjusted the bearing preload on these?

Thanks Corey

Engine off, have someone rock the wheel back and forth just past the loose limits - observe the steering linkage, starting with the gearbox, the link joints, the tie-rod ends, etc.

Noting when the steering arm begins to move, check each rod-end for play on the left and right side.

Determine the loose, worn components, go from there

OK, I just warrantied out the steering box and put another reman in it and, know i'm happier than a pig in s**t!!! The truck steers better than it ever has. Would have never known about the Lukes Link or the DSS Steering Stabilizer without this web site and the people on it!!

Thanks ALOT. Corey

I have a similar issue.

You said you 'warranteed' out the steering box. You still have warranty on truck?

Worm gear? Is that on the steering box itself?

TIA

The worm gear is IN the steering box.

Sorry WILD4KST8 for taking so long. When I say that "I warrantied out the steering box" I mean that I bought a reman unit but, it was no good and I exchanged it for another one.

From the limited knowledge that I have the allen is the over the center adjustment but it is also adjusting the worm gear as well.
