steering gear box seal ?s

97 3500 diesel 2x4

I bought a pittman seal kit from napa. There is a retaining clip in the kit. But there is NO retaining clip holding the old seals in the box. It appears there is a solid washer keeping the seals in place. Does the entire box have to come apart in order to replace the lower seals? I have the service manual and unbelieveably it doesnt cover this.

I was going to replace the seals in mine and saw the same thing. DTR member "mainer" has done this. Here's a PM he sent me.

I have to get at mine soon. Or a new steering box......
