Squeak is Driving me crazy.

I have a squeak, seems to be coming from behind the radio, maybe a little to the right or left.
I've removed the bezel a couple of times and reached around but I can't deaden it.
At the same time it is not all the time. Yesterday I removed the cup holder and ash tray (while at stop lights) because I was sure it was the radio. It is a tinny type noise thought it might be from the cd player. Seemed like it lessened and by the time I got home it was gone. But there was no difference when I gripped the radio from behind and shook it.
This morning (cup holder and ash tray are still out) plenty of squeak.
Seems to go away when the truck is pointed downhill with the brakes on.
I tightened a couple of nuts on the firewall but that didn't seem to help.
Usually I would think asking about squeaks was kinda silly but this one is very elusive and driving me crazy!

My '01 has the squeak when the temps are below 60 degrees F. I found it to be the knee panel. I can just put my fingertip between the knee panel and the steering wheel housing and stop the racket. It is coming from the friction fasteners across the top of the panel .I plan to remove the panel and make some chhanges before winter.

Check your door upper hinges. The pins & bushings wear out and will generate a lot of squeek.

2nd gen trucks have some weak spot welds behind the front fenders. When, (not if), these crack, you'll get a squeak. It can sound like it's coming from anywhere under the dash.

With the hood and door open, if you look down the back of the fender, you can see where the inner and outer fenders have been spot welded together. These welds crack and cause a nasty squeak.

The fix takes a couple of minutes with a mig welder.

I had one in mine to coming behind the dash but it was the linkage to the transmission.I sprayed some white lith grease and it took care of it.This might not be your prob but it was mine.Noise travel's, it sounded like it was in dash but,the noise was from linkage to gear shift lever.

Thanks for the replies.
A friend suggested spraying Armor All in and around the vents coming up under the windshield (liberally). I tried that but it made no difference.
I'll check the hinges and spot welds.
Thanks.

No relief, from those locations.
Hinges are fine and fenders are still secure.

Thanks though, I'll keep poking.

Another source od squeak is the hood latch. Theres a plastic rub plate that wears out and allows it to contact the top radiator support.

Update

Well,
I opened up the shifter boots.
I found the lower boot was sort of cut up and while driving with the boots not screwed down to the floor it was much noisier and it sounded like the squeak might have been coming from somewhere down near the transmission but I couldn't find anything.
It did seem to quiet down when I pressed down on the boots (after re-installing). I ordered a new boot which will help.
Then, I was needing to do some work under the truck so I pulled into a truck wash and pressure washed everything from below.
Squeak went away. It's been three days now and I may have heard it a little this morning but I'm pretty sure where to look if it comes back.
Thanks for the support.

Update after a few years.
Squeak turned out to be the transfer pump.
I'm not sure what was wrong with it. It didn't leak like they are supposed to when bad.
The motor stumbled at idle.
The squeak would go away when the truck was pointed downhill- pump wasn't working so hard.
Squeak would go away when underside was wet- not really sure on this but I think the moisture lubricated stuff.
Replaced pump and squeak went away for good, plus truck runs way better.
