My truck has over sized tires and the speedometer is off. Obviously this is a problem that should be remedied eventually. I know that several of the programmers allow me to fix this...but are there any cheaper options out there? I already have an edge comp and I really don't want to buy another programmer just to recalibrate my speedometer.

 

Just go to the dealer and have them change the ecm to match your tires. Should not cost more than $20 or so.

I charge .5. Set revs per mile, tone ring # and road test with GPS to verify.

 

What size tire did you go to. I think on my '96 the speedo was set to be overstated quite a bit. I switched to 285 tires which have a 10% greater circumference than 245's and I worried about my speedo being wrong. Later I bought me a GPS for other reasons but the now when my speedo says "60" the GPS only shows 61 or 62. Not too bad off !

 

After buying 4 new vehicles from my dealer he was going to charge me $100 for a speedo correction. Needless to say I didn't do it, and it cost him my future busness, and no recommendations from me to him for business.

It is amazing to me how short sighted dealers are.

 

I have 38" tires on mine and my speedo is off 15mph..........I also need to get mine recalibrated soon too!!! I was gonna buy a smarty but funds won't allow it right now.....guess I'll check the dealer and see what they will jab me for!

You do not have to buy any programmer. Ask you dealer to re-set the number of revolutions per mile indicated for your tire. You can find this info at a tire store that sells your tire or better yet, go to www.tirerack.com and look up your tires. The specification column will have revs per mile on all the tires. I do not know if this works for earlier dodges, but it works on 98.5 and newer, including third gen.
