Spare Tire Winch

Back when I first got my truck last summer, the garage that was working on it for me had to switch to my spare tire. They said the winch thing the spare hangs from under the bed was siezed so they had to cut the end off the wire hanger to get the tire out. I am getting sick of having the tire in the bed but I don't know where to get a new winch. First of all, what is the proper name for that winch sort of thing and any idea where I can get one other than local wrecker? I figured LMC but I just went through the catalogue, page by page, and I couldn't find a thing. Also, where should the jack and lug wrench be? I figure I should get all this stuff sorted out BEFORE I am sitting on the side of the road with a flat.

Jack and wrench should be under your rear seat, passanger side. Depends what they did when they cut your old system. If they just cut the cable, you may be able to fix it, if they torched more than that, you'll need some replacement parts. I'd check out a wrecker, or if you have a friend that went to big wheels, maybe he'll sell you his parts.

Grain - boy you are close by. Dalemead is a couple of miles west of Carseland. I can almost see Vulcan on a clear night.

The winch is a dealer item. I think they were $70 or so. Mine died on my '98.5 from bouncing around in Baja so much. I'm stretching a ratchet strap across the spare on my new one. I don't trust the winches. The jack handle is essential for using the winch, but the stock jacks are death traps. I got a 20 ton bottle jack long ago.
