Jeff

It was a joke as I know how big a fan you are of Mr Roth.

Ok.. The only thing I have to offer is from a buddy of mine in Stettler. His problem was that they found the Alloy wheels were cracking between the lug hole and the center of the rim. This would allow the ring to flex and pop the caps off. He since went to aftermarket rims.

I would work on bending the ring on the cap itself for a better fit. I don't understand how they would work themselves loose at such low speed. They are plastic, light and at the most going 850 Rpm.. Thats not alot of force even if the cap was full of mud.

Darn near lost one of mine today. Had the truck in for a rotate and balance, took off down the road and saw something go flying off the drivers front side,"Hmmm was that my hubcap?". Sure enough it was, turned around to claim my missing piece and checked the rest of them as well.

Solution for losing rear axle caps....

I have a 04.5 Dodge 3500 dually and I have lost a number of my rear axle caps mysteriously while driving in the last few years and given the cost of them at the dealership and the quality of some I've purchased off E-Bay, I decided to put an end to the madness.
I've put together a document that details my solution. Have a look:

Sorry..

I didn't notice this thread is in the 2nd Gen category when I posted my reply. I have a 3rd Gen so I'm not sure if this solution may apply to 2nd Gen trucks.

I just arrived home from a 5 wk vacation. Close to 5k miles. When I arrived in AZ noticed lost cap. 140.00 had a nice new one on truck. Happy again. Well got home yesterday looked at drivers side rear now that cap is gone. Darn! Was looking at your fix and love to try it. Only problem is my skills probably won't probably allow me to get this holes in the exact location. I can see me screwing up caps. My question is what is the chance of getting a tinplate on where to drill the holes? I would gladly pay you for your time and troubles. My truck is a 2014 1 ton dually. Not sure your cap would be exactly same as mine??????Nels. In Mi.

Any solutions welcome
i have '04 wheels on mine and never have lost any, maybe you should try newer caps

Do the axle mod, put in the studs and put some sticky stuff like bearing grease on the head of the stud. When you push on the cap it will get poked by the studs and you can drill where the grease marks are. Sure beats trying to guess where the holes should go.
