i too had that problem til i decided to fix it. i went to the auto parts store with cap in hand and got o-rings and stretched them over the the lug nut clips to help the clip apply more presure to the nuts and have not lost another cap in 3 years.

I'm thinking about running late model Chevy/GMC center caps that are held on by the plastic lug covers. I have 16X8 aluminum wheels and are different just enough to have lost 3 factory center caps. Tried a GM center and it fit perfect in the rim. Now need to figure out what emblem I want to install in place of the bowtie logo.

Get some RTV sealant. We use it on the dakota lugnut covers and such. Put it over the lugs and it should work wonders. And it will come off the lugs by just pulling it off when you need to change out the tires or rotate em.

Well I thought the Dodge lugs would be metric, but they are not so stock GM nuts won't work. Since they are 9/16" one needs to get custom lug nuts with an external thread.

As far as the caps mid'90s on up.

how about putting a strip of sandpaper in the socket area to take up some room and give some added friction?

Well thankfully the silicone was on, I checked the caps after work and the front passenger was more than a 1/4" off on one side. The only thing hanging on was the silicone. I was thinking of taking a grinder to make a grove in the surface on the lugnut where the clips hold on to.

Hmm, using a grinder doesnt seem like the best idea. If it doesnt work out right then you might have a really big problem on your hands. The silicon sounds like a good idea but if you end up grinding grooves into it then make sure you get it right the first time. But you probably already knew that

Maybe "grinding" is a aggressive word more like scuffing, this would be away from the mating surface to the rim to eliminate any problems only where the metal tabs of the center cap would sit. It only needs to just cause some friction or a grab point I wasn't looking to make deep groves and cause the lug nut to be structurally weak by any means.

This is strange, I have found 3 center caps in the Olds area over the last few years!

So far in 110,000 miles, I haven't lost one yet. I have noticed that mine do kind of snap on tightly compared to a couple of other trucks I know of. I'll have to take a look and see if anything is different.

I ended up finding a set of factory alloys here locally on Ebay for $200 cdn. The guy threw in all the caps and lugs with the deal so I have some spares if I ever need them. Can't buy the lug nuts for $200 cdn!!!

That's OK Jason, would you like the T-shirt and a cap to along with that jacket? The only use I can find for the shirt is to wipe the dipstick when I check the oil but my truck deserves way better than that!!
