Re:skyjacker d25's

I was originally going to go with the D25's, but when I got my tires and rims from Les Schwab, they didn't deal with Skyjacker, but with Tuff Country, so I ended up with one of their 2 inch spacers.

I am very pleased with how the truck turned out, appearance wise, but not very pleased with the install.

For something that can be done in one's driveway, they seems to take longer than they should have, and had to disconnect more parts then they should have.

I have some rubbing on the rear of the fender with the 315/75R-16's I got.
I believe this is due to the axle sitting a bit rearwards in the front, more so on the passenger side than the driver side.

Looking at it from the side, the passenger side tire is not centered in the wheel well, the driver side apears to be.

Looking at it from the front, it appears that the passenger side is toe-out more than a bit than the driver side.
Les Schwab also does alignment, and according to their machine, everything is right where it should be.
I think my truck is too big for their machine, and therefore can't get an accurate reading.

I'm going to try some suggestions I recieved here on how to fix it, and if it doesn't work, I'll save up for a 3 inch lift and that should fix my problems.

I'll also find an alignment shop that has a machine big enough for our trucks and get it done right as well.

As far as ease of installation, it should be fairly easy to do in your driveway.

Jack up the truck by the frame until the front axle can't go down anymore.
Secure with jack stands (3 ton work great)

Watch the brakeline and vaccum connections to make sure they aren't stressed (they shouldn't be).

Undo the shock tower and lower shock bolt and remove shock.
Place a bottle jack between axle and frame and seperate the two just enough to pull the stock shock out.
You might have to disconnect the sway bar or track bar to get the axle to come down enough.
If you can rent a spring compressor, it will make removal and installation so much easier (Les Schwab did not posess one, mistake 1)

If installing spacers, mark the stock springs with some chalk so you can put them back exactly the way they were, rotationally speaking. (Les Schwab did not, mistake 2)

Install spacer or D25 springs, and reverse above procedures.

Of course, follow any additional instructions included with the new springs or spacers.

I think that's about it.

Truck will sit way better than before, more like a truck should.

(I think I rambled a bit )

phox

Re:skyjacker d25's

Thanx phox, I also have the 315/75 16's on my truck and I got the rubbing now before the springs. I ended up getting them, but have to wait for them being on order. You say that it rubs now with the spacer,That sucks ! What hey did to fix mine was cut a little of the plastic inthe wheel well where it was rubbing. I was a little unsure about it at first but it came out alright, they said they do it a lot on these trucks. I still have to watch it turning up drivways, cant turn too hard or tires will still rub. I was hoping with the front lift it would clear it . am getting them on next week. will let know how it goes.

dingo

Back when I was considering the skyjackers, I was going to paint them black before I installed them.

You can always paint them blue.

Re:skyjacker d25's

If you want to paint them I recommend having them powder coated. I've seen guys spray them and it doesn't last anytime...

Re:skyjacker d25's

Fellas,

I'd be interested to know how this all turns out, seems Dodge made 2 different ride hieghts in '02, most of the long bed 4x4's are a bit taller, I have 315's as well and just got my second pair and new wheels (American racing Baja's) the offset is out about 2" the tires rub just a little on the rear part of the front inner fender(plastic)but only pulling into driveways and such and it's not bad, with the stock wheels the 315's rubbed on the inside (control arms)but it was much worse, I also think 2" will do the trick and make the truck look much better.

Re:skyjacker d25's

I just ordered a Pro Comp leveling kit for my 01 2500. Im going with the 305/70/16's on Weld rims with 4 5/8th's offset. They better not rub at all at full lock or otherwise. If anyone out there has a similar setup that is working let me know. I'd hate to have to change after spending all this money. If it turns out ok I'll let you know. Ohh and I ordered the Pro Comp instead of skyjacker because it is Blue.

RT

Re:skyjacker d25's

I recently put the D25's on my truck. With the kit and 16x10 Eagles the tires rub lightly when turning either direction. However, I run the molded style mudflaps and I think the tires are hitting this and not the inner fender. Before I installed the new springs, I rubbed the passenger side inner fender. I'm going to try to shed a little bit of the mudflaps to see if it helps. For a pic of the coils installed look here. The front sits a bit higher than the rear currently, I'm hoping the springs will settle out a bit more. andy
