Shocks--Holy Crap

Holy crap is the word allright. I'm at 132K on the clock and have been thinking lately that it might be time for some new shocks. I just got thru swapping out the fronts. The rubbers that go on top were gone, on both sides. By the looks of things, they haven't been banging around for too long. But those new shocks are amazing. I had to park a trailer down a dirt road not too far from the house. I decided to make a true test, I'd park the trailer, drive back home, swap the shocks and drive back down for a comparison. It was like riding on a glass smooth rode on the trip back. I'll be ordering another pair for the back with the next $$$ that I can sneak past the live-in bean counter. (that's the wife for you younger guys)

They are Monroe. I beleive the sansatrack, but I'll have to look at the ticket to make sure. It sure was a nice ride into work today. Felt like a new truck.

I hope that they aren't Monroe Sensatracs.

I put Sensatracs on my truck and the rears blew out in 6 months!

Turns out these shocks are not for trucks with a GVWR of 8800# which is
what a Dodge 2500 diesel truck is.

Fronts are still in and still holding up.

Sensatracs worked great in my Cheby 1500 pickup but the Dodge did them in.

I'd think twice before installing some in the rears (that's if they are Sensatracs)

Just a heads up so you don't make the same mistake that I did!

I hear Bilsteins are a very good shock. That's what I'm going to next

Hmm...I'm looking through my 07 Monroe Catalogue and for a regular Ram 2500, they do not have the Sensatracs, however they do have them under Ram 2500 "For Towing and Hauling".

Do you remember the part numbers of the shocks you bought?

I'm not sure if they were Sensatrac or not. I do know that I specificaly order the 8800#'ers. They had 4 options to choose from. Non-8800#, 8800#, 2" lift, and 4WD.

I went with KYB GR2 shocks that I bought off line. I Am very Impressed with what they do and they are not that much money. The thing that looked funny to me was that they are small lookin. Like ther should be on a half ton but they are rated for 8800# and work great.

I think many long term menebers here prefer the Bilstiens(Gas shock) and the Rancho 9000(Conventional but adjustable). Both of these seem to be the preferred products. KYB has had longetivity problems in the past, not sure about now. I think the Monroes are good new, but a year or 2 later, maybe not .
My $.02, for what it may be worth. The Bilsteins are about $60 each, more or less. They perform magic, especially compared to the OEM, POS(a low bid aquisition for sure!)
Good luck!
