Sending Unit Confusion
I plan on taking about a 2000 mile trip the end of the month and thought how nice it would be to know how much fuel is in the tank. I called one local dealer and they said $52 for a sending unit. I called another and they said "What size tank do you have?" I told him a 35 gallon and said that I thought there was only one size tank available in our trucks. He said "well, I am looking in the book FROM DC and there are two. One is a 23 gal and the other one is 35 gal". My owners manual only shows one size- 35. Anybody heard of this? BTW he also said $76 for the same part. I just don't understand .............................
Tom

I have a shortbed 12v and it has the 35 gal tank.
I got my new sending unit from the dealer and paid 38.00 for it. Installed it in about 40 minutes and have had no problems.
When I called the dealer to get mine, they never asked me anything other than what year ,make and model.
I think your dealer does not know how to read or he thought you had a gasser.
Just my thoughts.
Allen

I just ordered one at the dealer $41.97 There was no question of the tank size. I been driving Dodges for years and haven't run across 23 Gal. tank. (on trucks)

Sounds to me like the fellow may need glasses.

Have fun on your trip!

Re:Sending Unit Confusion
Some where on the site was a fix for bad senders.
I can't seem to find it now but know I seen it some time in the last few days while browsing . It had something to do with a spring and a washer to keep tension on the arm --as the shaft gets worn and lets the contacts skip . If it works and the guy said it did , it makes it last longer than the factory hookup.
