Search for the SQUEAK!

I've read back as far as I my eyes will tolerate and have done a search for "squeak" through the search tool. Apparently, the solutions for the squeak are so far back, the results of the search don't have them.

I, too, have the dreaded cab squeak when moving. My father has three Gen 2 dodges and would probably buy me Sugar bowl tickets if I could fix this dreaded noise.

Is there anyway the squeak fix, since it seems to be such a common question, could be reposted or put in the tech facts?

Thanks folks.

i have it too. still havent figured out exactly from where.

seems some people's squeak comes from the transmission shift linkage (i think ). i soaked mine pb blast and that didnt solve it. ive heard its doors so i did the same to them, still nothin.

know how u feel though, very annoying noise

I suppose you had no luck with the search? :- I've considered a much more powerful stereo system to eliminate the aggravation. ;D

Re:Search for the SQUEAK!

quantrill--I see you have a toolbox. I had a horrible cab squeak and I thought it was in the cab. I greased all of the doors, checked under the rear seat. I ended up putting some WD-40 on the latches of the toolbox and all ceased. Now i spray them down about every other month.

matt - thought bout that and have sprayed all the hinges and such but i just put that box on 2 months ago, ive had the squeak almost since i bought the truck.

tigerfan - "I've considered a much more powerful stereo system to eliminate the aggravation. " my system and the straight pipe are the only 2 things keeping that squeak from driving me insane

Re:Search for the SQUEAK!

I had a terrible squeek on my 01 6 speed, found it was the cubby/stash/compartment below the radio. Took mine out and put two sided tape around the opening and on the panel--no more squeek.

I did read something recently about some factory spot/resistance welds that were breaking around the "A" pillar, or door hinge pillar...This sound possible????

Re:Search for the SQUEAK!

I know I have the "squeak" as well.

I figured out it wasn't engine/trany?/drivetrain related
by coasting down a hill with the engine off and windows
up. It ALMOST sounds like a swaybar/lower/upper arm bushing, or a metal on metal. But I can jounce the truck roughly in the front and rear and can't duplicate........

When you think it would squeak, it doesn't and when it does,
you will be driving straight, level with no bumps!

maybe it is inside the truck....

the search begins....

EXACTLY, ill be driving on a relatively flat straight road and the squeaking will go nuts >. i really dont think its anything in the drivetrain either. really sounds like its from the doors, however i have soaked every area i could think with pb blast and it still squeaks...... :

Just the dang brake squeak. "BUT I WILL NOT CHANGE THEM UNTIL THEY WEAR!" :-

Humm....

Metal on metal! that would make sense too!

Just typical frame flex and mine does sound like it is coming
from the middle of the cab or rear.....(thus the trany mount was a consideration at one time)

Thanks 02DSLDOG!!!

Yeah, the brakes.......I just started stoping later and less babying them )

Re:Search for the SQUEAK!

I found my squeak - it was the upper control arm bushings. I had a hard time locating the squeak, but could actually feel the squeak when I placed my hand over the control arm while a friend was rocking the front up and down.
Good Luck
Ken

Re:Search for the SQUEAK!

Well one of my other squeaks/rattles turned out to be the plug going into my rear-view mirror. It squeaks and every so often i will push it tighter into the plug
