reverse light woes.....

Up here in sunny bc it seems all the recent rain and humidity has got to my reverse light. It has been working intermittently and getting worse. Today it didn't work at all.... playing with the gear stick when selecting reverse seems to help sometimes.... any suggestions on where to look first?

I'd go straight to the back up lamp switch. Two wire switch on the side of your trans. Put it in R with the key on and check your voltages.

My backup switch looked fine on the ohm meter, but when I bridged terminals on the plug with a wire (bypassing the switch), the lights would light. So you may get a false indication from testing w/ the ohm meter.

Mine quit working on my 96 one time. I crawled under the back of the truck and started pulling wiring plugs apart and cleaning them with contact cleaner. One of them was pretty nasty inside, once cleaned my lights worked just fine.

The curious thing about my 99 AT, was the reverse lights started working intermittently, but the "Park/Neutral" part of the neutral safety switch worked fine. I figured both parts would mess up at the same time, but I guess not. All was well after replacing the switch, per recommendation of members here.
