remote control to open locks? Can it be added?

I have a 99 3500 CTD 4x4 and I would like to add the remote feature. Can I just buy the remote key control and get it programed myself? Or do I have to get a complete kit to get reomote keyless entry to work on my truck?
Thks inadvance!

i just added keyless enrty to my truck. i bought it from chrysler so that it would just plug in. you can get it cheap of ebay but those kits mean alot of cutting wires. what i bought to do mine was a remote keyless entry module worth something like 270 canadian and the wiring harness worth about 70 dollars canadian. it was a fairly easy job it all just plugs in with the exception of bolting a ground wire to the body and splicing a wire to the dome light wire for illuminated entry. but when i was putting this in i found out you need to buy an additional package to make the park lights flash when you lock the doors. it seems like it would be handy becouse then you know it works as your walking away. but so when i went to get that part they said you cant get that part anymore.

so anyways for 300 dollars i have keyless entry and didnt have to cut any wires the only thing i dont like is the park lights dont flash . but it is fairly easy to do good luck.

I installed a Valiant alarm/remote door opener system in my '98 right after buying it. Except for occasional loose connections due to my inept installation, it was still working fine when I sold it a couple of months ago. The cost was about $60.

Mine has a remote starter that also unlocks the doors. It was in the truck when I bought it, but I have installed them before. On a first time install it would take about 3 or 4 hours to do a good job.

Now I'm just "assuming" those that bought the kits already had power locks just not the key fob. What about us with the old skool manual locks. Are the motors already there just not plugged into a harness somewhere??

Thanks

No way 2500ram. No motors already there at all. No power lock motors or window..Nice try though.

How can someone check to see if the truck has keyless entry feature but missing the remote???

The easiest way to verify would be to take it to the dealer and have them plug it in to their DRB scanner....if the associated modules are in place for the remote locks, it will show up right away.

You can also have the dealer parts man run the vin and look up the build sheet. Did this with my wifes Durango. Cost 80 for the control units and programming.

Check under the dash or under the steering wheel to see if you see any unusual black boxes or anything. I'm not sure how the factory unit looks, but usually the factory unit would make a sound upon locking, correct? So shouldn't there be an extra horn under the hood?

On a second gen the box that operates several feathres is under the dash just to the right of the steering wheel. The unit for the non remote is much smaller than the remote unit. I guess without getting technical if you could look under the dash of one with remote, and comare with yours, would be the easiest.

Also just replacing the unit does not make it remote, there is a difference in the door wire pigtail. I tried it.
